This is my experience from the past and now.
If you thinking of working here, this is my experience as a worker and as a customer.
FOR THE WORKERS:
You have to do the same thing over and over and over again. That can get very tiring very quickly and dealing with all the customers all the time. Many workers I talk to hate working there and won't come back again.
There are a few that do like working there and they end up coming back year after year and they tend to re-hire those people.
I only stay few days and they kick me out which is fine with me.
They did made one improvement, since they moved to another spot at Griffith Park. In the past, the workers always have to walk up the steep hill while the higher ups was able to use the golf cart. Now since they at a new spot, there's no more steep hill.
But than again, they may have made the change because of the customers.
FOR THE CYSTOMERS:
In the past, when they were at old zoo, there was lot more stuff to see on the Hayride. They actually take you around the old zoo. It was a mixture of actors and actresses that are show business and they also have some professional performers there.
But now, the ride is shorter and there are lot less things to see on it. I only saw one scene that they used professional performers. That's it. Very disappointing.
There is one improvement they made. Now they let you seat down on those fake haystakes. I'm thinking they made that change because of an accident in another state. Not sure.
We didn't check out the rest of the stuff there but we did see a limited weekend addition of Goosebumps which was quite cool!
PARKING! CONFUSING!
The parking and bus pick up and drop is very CONFUSING!
Yes, they now use shuttles because lots of people are going there now. We don't know where to park and we don't know where to catch the bus.
Even when we catch the shuttle to head back to the car, we end up lining up on the wrong line.
After I got home, I check the website and it says to park at the zoo. But what I saw, it looks like they let you park at other places too. If you choose to park at the zoo, the bus pick up and drop off is at the end of the parking lot (north side).
CONCLUSION & TIPS
If you can afford it, I go for more expensive ticket. Now there's very long lines.
I will just take Uber or Lyft there to avoid the hassle of finding parking and getting the shuttle.
Is it worth it? Comparing what they offering now to what they offer in the past you get less now than what you got several years ago.
I won't go back again but if you never been to it, it's worth checking it out at least once your lifetime.
Buy your tickets online and they now use metal detector...
Read moreWhat happened?!?! We have been to the LA Haunted Hayride for years and are sad to report that the 2022 version of this previously amazing event was such a disappointment!
I would rate the hayride itself as a 1-star experience. The ride was unbelievably short compared to prior years and had very few scare actors. The 4 or 5 actors weren't really doing much to scare anyone. In prior years you would get off the hayride halfway through and go through a haunted maze. Not this year! When we thought we were getting to that part, we quickly realized it was actually the end of the end of the hayride. The whole hayride was basically 10 minutes long. If I had paid General Admission prices and waited as long as those individuals, this rating would certainly drop to a zero! The VIP ticket was sadly essential for this line alone.
The three haunted mazes were a little better. But even these have gone downhill compared to prior years because they only had a few scare actors in each one. Rather than being scared, most of the time spent in the mazes is just walking through looking at the scenes they have built with awkward lighting that removed the "scare" factor entirely.
Parking was terrible! There were no signs telling people where to park and only had a few people inattentively "directing" traffic. All of the smaller lots around the event were full, so we ended up at the LA Zoo, which we had to discover on our own. The event provided shuttles, but again, there were no signs or people directing visitors to the pick up location, which was on the other side of the zoo and not in front of it or on the side towards the hayride event. As a result, we ended up walking with a slew of others ~1 mile from the LA Zoo to the event.
To make matters worse, it was incredibly crowded this year! It was obvious that they oversold the event. I shudder to think what the crowds will look like towards the end of October closer to Halloween! (This was only the second Saturday of the month!)
Having experienced the LA Haunted Hayride for several years, I am sad to report that last night will be the last time we go. It's just not worth it anymore. I hope the people who run this event read these reviews and make some positive changes so that it can once again be as great as it used to be for...

This haunted experience used to be legendary when 1031 Productions ran it, now owned by 13th (Thirteenth) Floor Entertainment Group it is a waste of time and money.
Food Trucks- Tacos ordered Carne Asada and Pollo Asada both were ground chuck style. Think about a sub par Taco Bell meets sub par taqueria. Two plates cost $40 plus tip. Guessing they are charging the food trucks too much rent for a sustainable business model so they cut on ingredient costs. Oooooof!
Water 6-8$ a can (Liquid Death). Bummer, but usual event mark up so not that surprising.
Reces Ice cream truck, pricey but a nice treat.
Mazes- Boring. Nothing original, nothing scary. Stories lacked, vibe lacked. One of the mazes had a little interactive moment, sorta kinda. Hillbillies, lame. Trick or Treat, lame. Monae Manor WTF! dance music and non cohesive walk through video screens everywhere. All of these need work and a creative boost.
Escape Room- Don't waste your money. Super dumb, poorly operated. First part obvious, second part just not enough time.
Zombie Splat- WTF waste of $$
The Monte Revolta Show, cheeky humour, cute but dumb and boring. Breaks the mood of what once promoted creepy feels. Used to be big open common area with costumed monsters everywhere.... Now feels like low budget county fair stage.
Scary-Go-Round used to go backwards, I just saw it going forward.
Hayride- I can't reiterate the beauty that was once the Haunted Hayride in Griffith Park. The acting, costumes, acrobatic elements made this thing amazing. The old Hayride had dark pacing, bumps, great atmosphere, spooky surprises....this one felt like a crappy ride through Home Depot displays, bad blow up tentacles. No story- no mood- no fun. Felt like a ride through a parking lot.
Letter to Thirteenth Floor Entertainment if you are going to buy up all the haunts in the US you gotta step up your game. Please revisit this location. This is LA! The city of movie magic, great theatrics, and a million out of work actors....
