We went to the PALG on 2/26/25. Our tickets were purchased in advance and there system was efficient. The cost is only $6 per person which is very little to do almost anything in the greater LA area.
We were greeting on the front patio by a nice gentleman and asked to wait for our docent. In a short time we were allowed to enter the mansion and asked to remain in the large entry hall. The building and part of the interior spaces you see upon entering are impressive.
The main parlor may have been impressive at one time but the day we were there it was filled will AV equipment and several old sofas and chairs. The entry hall, library, and stair cases are impressive but lack appropriate furnishings that reflect either the original or second owners period in history. There is beautiful metal work on the stairs that you are told was once shiny and gorgeous that is not being maintained. The "tour" of the interior is not a tour in the sense that you are only given a very brief look at the three rooms mentioned here. The docent who we were will provided very little information and was in a rush to get us outside to the garden where she stated there was not time for us to do the labyrinth and rushed us off to the garden which can be fully walked in 10 minutes or so. This is not to say it is not pretty or nicely kept but having toured many homes and gardens it does not wow you.
There is so much potential for this property to more and better. The "church" designation and "school" function that the property is used for is not the story that will draw a person to this property and it appears the folks that run the "tour" don't get this and seem to have little interest in this being the draw. The broader audience comes first and foremost for the history, beauty, architecture - not spiritual awareness. They have the opportunity to make the tour more interesting to visitors and more valuable to those entrusted with the care of this place. I think they should want to restore and furnish more of the property to its original grandeur - but maybe I am wrong.
We drove one hour and fifteen minutes to see the PALG in LA traffic. If you are going to go out of your way to see a property and garden in LA I'd suggest you go to Gamble House, Huntington Gardens, Hollyhock House or any number of other places. If you happen to be in this neighborhood and don't have to go out of your way it might be worth your time. Just don't...
Read moreI visited this awesome place midweek. It was still busy even for then. I walked the labyrinth and thought it was serene to do. Some of the staff watched me as though I was intruding. Can’t quite put my finger in those strange stares. Lol I look normal. However I felt more spiritual visiting Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades. It’s a crater lake with all the religions of the world memorial in amongst beds of roses and other beautiful vegetation. Swans swim the lake and a windmill chapel sits on it. You can go inside and pray or meditate. Mahatma Ghandi has partial ashes buried in the little resting place near the chapel. And on the hill 103 magical steps up, is the great temple. They have services and meditation classes. There’s also a book store and a small museum. No cost to explore this serene place. I go there often to pray, meditate and feel the natural peace in the air. They often are closed for private events so chk ahead. I believe they’re closed on Monday’s. No pets or...

I had seen this beautiful place from behind the gate and always assumed it was some elite club for some elite LA snobs. Until someone knocked me upside the head and told me it's a peace center. You'll have an orientation for the first visit to show you around. There's a little cafe inside, and the outside is gorgeous. There is a tile maze that is fun to walk through ( and if anyone can please enlighten me as to what the tiles are made of - they remain cool in full sun- I need me some in my patio). Down at the far end is a garden with benches and trickling water to suit your meditative needs. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. While waiting outside for the orientation, they came outside and offered me water.
They have various events too that help with meditation and understand yourself. I attended a sound bath which was an amazing and...
