I do like the tide pools/beach here, but parking is expensive. It’s not like they have much to maintain here, please correct me if I’m wrong... but all I see is a public bathroom and tiny park at the top which I wish they would have put by down by the beach, but I understand they don’t want the salty sea breeze on the metal... I would think $1.75 parking meters per hour like other beaches would be sufficient... I see this keeps the crowds down but if you don’t want to park up at top and lug all your stuff down it’s $10 flat rate.. yeah even for a few minutes so people go down and stay in the car instead of paying the fee. I don’t stay all day so it’s not worth paying if you are just there a couple hours... I watch the sunset and leave. You can park for free at the tide pools - Ocean Trails at Donald Trump Golf Course. You do have to hike down to the water, but free parking is nice for such a well maintained park/beautiful trails. They get their money from the golfers so we don’t have to pay for enjoying the beach... it’s a much more beautiful trail/scenery than White Point. The crowds here at White Point are sometimes sketchy too compared to Ocean Trails. I smell weed every time I’m there, granted it is legal to carry, smoking on the beach is not no matter what you are smoking... my kids don’t need that in their face especially during Covid so go smoke in your car or leave it at home. Check the low tide times and please do not let your kids be too close to the waves on the rocks, you know they can get crushed on the rocks and swept out to sea by these waves... I see parents not even watching their little ones. We will only come here if our friends who live right near are going. I think Ocean trails is...
Read moreWhite Point Beach, nestled in the San Pedro District of Los Angeles, is a coastal treasure with a rich tapestry of natural and cultural history. This small, rocky beach, officially known as Whites Point, is not your typical sunbathing spot but rather a haven for scuba divers and tidepoolers. At low tide, the beach reveals a plethora of tide pools, offering a glimpse into the vibrant marine life that thrives beneath the waves. The surrounding White Point Nature Preserve adds to the area's charm, with hiking trails that meander around historical military sites, including a Cold War Nike Missile Launch Pad. The panoramic views from the bluffs are breathtaking, encompassing the vast Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island on the horizon. White Point Beach is a place where the past and present merge, where visitors can explore the diverse tide pools, enjoy the scenic beauty, and reflect on the area's storied past, from its native inhabitants to its role in California's ranching and...
Read moreSaw multiple small crabs on the right (even one bearing eggs), a hawk standing on a branch sticking out of the cliff, seagulls as usual, probably 10 of whatever those squirrel dwellers are by the rocks, and even a pod of 4 or 5 dolphins on the left side right behind the waves. Very unique sounds with waves washing the pebble beach back and forth located by a nice neighborhood overwatching the cliff. The left store's a good place to see a bunch of different rocks/pebbles, also a Picnic area with palm trees on the right side.
There's also a big mound probably that can be walked up quarter mile down to the left by the corner.
Overall, well worth the 1 hour drive from Anaheim and the $8 parking fee to descend down with the car. Stayed from...
