The student union building has been updated and it looks very nice. I do want to address a building that is attached directly to the student union building. Currently Hemmle Hall, which is the university's main performance hall, is under reconstructive facelift. However, I attended Tech and the School of Music looks almost completely identical to how I left it 25 years ago...minus a new bench and/or carpet here or there. It saddens me that we have so much money from donors, tuition, and other funds coming into our college and yet the bathrooms in the music buildings have not been touched. The tile is the same tile cracked and gross looking, please see pictures, that it was when I attended Tech around 25 years ago. We have an entire football stadium that looks completely updated with new areas that have been built on, new turf that has been put down and not one thing has been done to upgrade areas around the music building. Spread the wealth Tech. I know that football brings in a good chunk of change but use that change to upgrade other areas of that campus, too. I want to eventually send my own kids to Texas Tech and they're not going to be a football player. That is not all there is to life. The education received from Texas Tech has been amazing. The things I learned in the music building have helped me to provide for my family. As much as I love football, it has not affected my life after my time at Tech. . And while one might say football is what brings money into the campus, well then you show me where that money has been used to upgrade the educational facilities of that campus. Music educators alone, over the last 25 years through their college tuition cost and fees have paid for the music building to get the upgrades that they deserve. Many of whom are now out in the world teaching Music Education showing diplomas received from Texas Tech University. Not to mention sending students each year through choir camps and band camps to encourage kids to come to Tech. Support the education departments that are teaching and bring up the world through music education. Not just the few who are on the football team or in the cheer squad. Support education and the arts. The music building needs an upgrade in...
Read moreMost aspects of this Student Union are clean and well run. There are several different restaurant selections, a bookstore, and a few little shops and other amenities. There are meeting areas, social areas, etc. as any other similar facility at other universities. The restaurants have an issue I'd highlight, however. The employees have a high turnover rate, and thus low experience. They don't know how to make the dishes on their menu, so quality varies and service is slow. Prices are also quite high, so take that into...
Read moreYou can get pretty much everything need for your daily study activity: breakfast, coffee, lunch, snacks, and etc. My favorite food there is burrito (potato, egg and cheese) for breakfast and Chick-Fil-A for lunch. There are also smoothie and ice cream places if you crave for some sweets. Each month the theatre inside SUB will present a recently released Hollywood movie for free. Overall, SUB is really a good place to relax and hang out...
