The Malibu West Beach Club is a gorgeous venue and everything looked beautiful. We chose this venue because the view of the ocean and the ability to choose our own catering couldn't be beat.
Please be warned though: if you're looking for a venue that is communicative and organized, this is not the place for you. The representative from the venue that we were in contact with during planning, Christine Hays, often sent us information that was directly contradictory to information that she had sent prior. She claimed to not receive checks that my bank told me had been cashed. She also told us that certain things were "required" less than a month before the wedding, with one of these mandates being told to us 5 days prior to the wedding. Our caterer also had a difficult time trying to communicate with the venue staff. The caterer feeds dozens of events a week, and Christine wanted them to take a day off to visit the venue to discuss paperwork. Ultimately, she was able to email the paperwork over to them and it worked out fine, but it was an added hassle that wasn't necessary.
Additionally, there were strangers running around on the beach during the wedding, including a fully naked child. Our wedding didn't start until 5pm, so most of them left before the ceremony started, but just know that when they tell you it's a "Private Beach", they mean that the beach is fully open to anyone who lives nearby.
The wedding turned out great and everything worked out in the end, but please understand what you're getting yourself into if you decide to book the Malibu...
Read moreI must start with the most important fact: this venue is gorgeous and I am generally glad I had my wedding here. All of our vendors (many from the preferred vendor list provided by the club, special shout-out to Criticâs Choice catering!) were fantastic. However, I am deeply disappointed in how Christine handled mistakes she made. We confirmed multiple times to use the venue for a rehearsal space the evening prior to the ceremony. This was crucial as most of the wedding party was from out of state and we had no other opportunities to do this. She completely left us hanging, never arrived, and did not answer phone or email. The following day, she insisted we never confirmed (we did- multiple times with plenty of email proof). She should have apologized profusely. Not only that, but she was unkind and unprofessional in her communication with the groom on the day of the wedding and almost did not allow us the arch that we had also confirmed and paid for.
Again, the venue was gorgeous and clean, and overall our wedding was FANTASTIC. However, Christine needs to be more professional and take responsibility that her job involves a very special event in folksâ lives. Do not take that lightly or let your inability to own your mistakes taint that memory for...
Read moreI DJ/MC'd at a client's wedding at Malibu West Beach Club, as I have done several times before. While the location can be a challenge, being that it's an L shaped room, the fact that the bar is outdoors (always a bad idea if you want to maintain the flow of the night) and that there is a sound ordinance, this time I had to contend with 120 guests and a band in the same limited space. These are all issues that can be overcome with the right event professional by your side. đ That being said, the location has a great balcony just feet away from the water, which makes for a great backdrop while saying your vows. The walls are draped in a tull like fabric that is decorated with lights, elevating the mood of the hall and creating a photo-op factor. There is a massive size space for the bride to hangout with her entourage, or to be used as a second room for whatever ideas you might create. The staff as always been very accommodating and understanding of both the client's needs, as well as the vendors. This is very important. I like working at...
