Parking in Rodeo Beach, follow signs to coastal trail. Recommend downloading offline maps, cell phone service limited in some areas. There is a bike trail (paved / dirt road) and walking trail (dirt road). Steep hill in some parts but not very difficult to get to. Panoramic views and interesting historical landmarks dot this coastal trail. Use restrooms in parking area by Rodeo beach, there are no public restrooms here or alongside trails. Happy hiking : )

We visited today and got a free tour explaining what the Battery was for, how tough it was for the men who lived there, who prepared to fight the enemy who never came. It is a beautiful hike, informative tour (every Sun.), and spectacular views. Just be prepared for the traffic winding its way down to the Golden Gate Bridge. That part wasn't fun, but we had nice views to keep us...

About 3/4 mile up the hill from the parking lot. Worth it to see a WW2-era gun emplacement in excellent condition including example of the type of 16" gun that would have been used here and Battery Davis at Fort Funston. The old munition-storage bunkers have been retrofitted into a visitor center of sorts that is well worth the visit once...
