I went on a Tuesday. I was at the door five minutes before they opened at 11. The 11:30 lighthouse tour was sold out before 11:10.

Our guide was a volunteer, Greg. Both sides of Greg's family come from Marquette. He lives on the same street he grew up on around the corner from the lighthouse.

Greg did not get into specific details about the lake, the city, or the lighthouse. He gave us some broad information about the structures and the geology, but what Greg really gave us was magical.

Greg told us stories of the people living on the street in Marquette. Experiences that rhymed across generations. He told us the quirks of living in a "metropolis" in the remote wilderness. He did it all with meandering yooper charm.

I am unsure how to ensure that one has Greg as their guide but I could not recommend more....

Susan is an AWESOME volunteer guide. Super knowledgeable and fun to be around. She has so much interesting knowledge of the lighthouse and Marquette. Her personality makes it easy to listen and want to learn more.

The lighthouse isn't as accessible as I had hoped, and is limited to the basement, first floor and outside. Paranormal activity is proven prevalent here and the place is packed with emotions and history. Definitely worth the price. The tour lasted about an hour.

Susan said the future of the lighthouse is as exciting as the past. Future plans may include staging the lighthouse as it was lived in over a hundred years ago.

After the tour, take a walk into the eastern breakwaters and see the house from...

I was there in August 2004, as crew aboard the Tallship Bounty. The Docent who's name I've forgotten unfortunately, was wonderful. He conducted me on a tour of the museum and lighthouse and after I spent the day at the beach with pretty college women, he and his wife took me on your of the town, and to PK park. Then they treated me to several types of pasties and told me of their history. I remembered their names for many years, sorry I forget now. I think it's a very nice town, and the lighthouse museum is unique and interesting. Hope I can visit again someday, but not by water, I'm all done...

Absolutely beautiful views of Lake Superior surround the lighthouse in Marquette. From the public walking path you are able to view this beautiful historic treasure in 180’ view!! Also walked out on a jetty by the coast guard to view the lighthouse from another cool perspective! Also…watch for an amazingly cool sign embedded into a tree off the public walking path that warns not to trespass on coast guard property that has been on there since 1866 when this lighthouse was built or even prior when the old lighthouse was still around. So happy we got to see this stunning historical place!

Nice sized cafe and community space in Munsing. Stopped in for coffee and a quick breakfast. I enjoyed browsing the art gallery space and books while I sipped my coffee. The shop was hosting a meet the author event that day and it was interesting to see the local writers and how much the UP had inspired their writing. Brewed coffee was okay, a little weak but hot! Note they don’t seem to offer too many iced drinks, so if you like hot this is your place. The breakfast burrito we ordered was delicious and a nice sized portion we shared between two of us.
