A very short walk from the Visitor Center of Haleakala National Park south entrance. This is where you will find the 7 Sacred Pools and some waterfalls. The views of the pools were nice and the ocean views were mesmerizing. Along the way, we learnt about the history of the area and Hawaii’s land division history.
You will need to have a National Park Pass or buy a 3-day pass good for all National Parks for $30 at the entrance.
There are two ways to get here, either via the famous (albeit winding) Hana Highway or through the narrow but beautiful ocean front road through the southern part of Maui. We drove from Ka’anapali through the south and then return via Hana Highway. It took about the same amount of time for us to and from this spot with some sightseeing stops and for lunch. Roughly 4 hours each way. It was well worth the drive, but I probably won’t do it again as it was not an easy drive.
We’ve visited both 7 Sacred Pools (the other one being in Sedona, Arizona) and found this one was to be much...
Read moreRoute 37 to Pipiwie trail was closed on June 18, 2023. Google maps routes you thru this way but the entrance is closed off! The sign about 17 miles to the trail head was too small and the Road too narrow, treacherous and bumpy to look at it on the side. They should really close off the road and say local access only. They said it has been closed for 2 months due to falling rocks and construction but no locals ever told us it was closed in the past few days we chatted with them about going there. There was only mention of it being dangerous but that’s about it. Many people were confused and disappointed having to turn around after a very hard and long drive. Dont waste 5 hours to drive here and back and use the route 36 from north west to...
Read more(Review as of: 12/14/2022) Along the Pipiwai Trail, you will see this little waterfall over one of the scenic view points. If you keep walking and listening the waterfall, there is a small spot where you can veer off from the main trail and hike down 100 feet or so, to get to the rocky base of 'Ohe'o Gulch falls.
If you're going on a busy day and there's a lot of other hikers, do yourself a favor and take this detour. Enjoy your time, stop by the base of the falls, sit, re-hydrate (not the water here, but w/ your own), take some pictures and relax a bit before continuing. This is a great start to the Pipiwai Trail as it is quite enjoyable and picturesque.
Very easy hike to get to, and would recommend others to...
