Makena Beach in Maui is hands down the most beautiful beach I've ever visited. The moment you set foot on the soft, white sands, you're immediately struck by the pristine, untouched beauty of this natural paradise. The beach stretches out seemingly endlessly, offering plenty of space to find your own little slice of heaven.
The waters at Makena Beach are simply incredible. Crystal clear and a stunning shade of turquoise, they invite you in for a swim that’s both refreshing and invigorating. The gentle waves make it perfect for swimming, whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just looking to wade in and enjoy the cool water. On a sunny day, the water sparkles like a thousand diamonds, making it almost impossible to resist.
The surrounding scenery is equally breathtaking. Lush green vegetation provides a picturesque backdrop, and the distant view of the other Hawaiian islands adds to the sense of tropical paradise. The beach is well-maintained, and its natural beauty is preserved, creating an unspoiled haven for visitors.
What made my time at Makena Beach truly special was the overall atmosphere. It’s serene and peaceful, allowing you to completely unwind and soak in the natural beauty. Whether you’re swimming in the clear waters, lounging on the soft sands, or simply taking a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, every moment at Makena Beach feels like a dream.
Overall, Makena Beach offers an unforgettable experience with its pristine waters, white sands, and breathtaking scenery. It’s the perfect spot for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of Maui. I can’t recommend it enough – Makena Beach is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience one of the most beautiful beaches...
Read morePros - Long stretch of beautiful sand and the view of Molokini is right in front of you. Beach is huge plenty of room. Port a potties on site, Life guards on duty, water rinsing stations close by. The sand was amazing very soft and fine. Perfect beach to just relax and enjoy the view. Great beach for adults to swim. Walk off the beach and in a few steps you are in 10 feet of water. Parking is close if you get there early.
Cons - This is not kid friendly. The shore line is very steep and the waves break pretty close and hard on shore. So either to deep for the kiddos to swim or they get rag dolled by the waves. Lifeguards had also mentioned not a good place to boogie board as they have had a lot of neck injuries here. The water breaks close to shore and the pitch of the beach is very steep. Be careful you should always board parallel to shore. State park fees are now $5 per person
Long story short it's a great place for adults picnic, swimming, and to just relax and enjoy the great view. OK for families if you're just building sand castles and relaxing. But the water is not kid friendly. Show up early and you will beat the crowd. We were there at 930 to 10am and very few people there. Later in the day parking fills up fast and you may have to enjoy a little walk from the main road. 5 to 7 minute walk from main road to...
Read moreMakena Beach was well worth our visit this past week (first week in February, 2022). Beautiful, wide, crescent beach with golden sands. It is steep towards the northern side, with a strong shore break - not a good water entry point for most folks. The lifeguards present kept an eye on the innocents. I am a long time swimmer - open water and pool - and spent much of the day in the water. Just enter between sets and stay out beyond the break for longshore swims. There is a reef running parallel to the shoreline, about 50-75 yards out. Crystal clear water. Not a lot of fish when I was snorkeling.
We arrived at 9 am, and there was plenty of parking. $20 for our car and the two of us - glad to pay, as the two lifeguards present let me know that the fees really help out with site maintenance and safety costs.
Shout out to the very nice local gal who called out a couple who knew better for not picking up their dog's poop on the beach. I had a plastic bag, and retrieved the leaving for later deposit in the beach pathway garbage can. Can't forget that there are good people out there, looking out for special places like Makena. She lives there and...
