Extra Space Storage — Attraction in Melbourne

I did my research and reserved a 10'x25' outdoor, drive-up, ground level storage unit online for this Melbourne location, first month's rent free. After receiving confirmation email telling me to arrive by 4pm the following day and what type of lock to purchase, I rented a 20' U-Haul and spent hours the next day loading it. I then drove it nearly an hour to the Life Storage location, arriving at 2:30 pm, to find a sign in the window stating they'd be closed that day! A lot of storage facilities close early on Sunday, so I had to scramble around to find a storage unit nearby to unload my U-Haul and get it back to Titusville when it was due. I ended up having to pay $159 for a tiny 10'x10' indoor location, which took a long time to Tetris everything into after walking through the building dozens of times carrying items. I ended up having to extend my drop off time for the U-Haul, costing me even more money. The next day, I called to speak to the manager of this location, and he stated, "Yeah. I had a staffing issue." I explained that what had happened the previous day was unacceptable, and was through no fault of my own. He said he'd talk to his area manager and get back to me. It's been five days now and he's just going to ignore me and hope I go away? I wouldn't have rented a U-Haul and driving my things to Melbourne that day if I didn't have CONFIRMATION that my space would be available to me. I would not have had to rent a full-priced smaller unit if it weren't for him having a staffing issue. Hell, I wouldn't have bought a $20 lock had I known I'd end up at a place that insists you use a different type of lock. Horrible business practice. Horrible...

I Normally do not write reviews but after what happened to me I figured people need to know. I was looking around for a 10x10 climate controlled storage space for my son this passed weekend and stopped into Life Storage on 1923 North Wickham Road , When I pulled into the parking lot there are cones in front of the gate (One Red Flag). I Went into the office and talked to a older lady (She never gave me her name) and I told her I was looking for a storage space for my son, She stated her computers were down and she would not be able to rent me a space or give me any prices. When I asked will your computers be back up later today? She stated I doubt it with this company and she told me I would do better to come back next week (2nd Red Flag). She also stated I could go online to rent a unit. She was making me feel as if I was bothering her and I felt like I was being pushed out the door so I left. As I was leaving you can see the property was dirty and the landscaping looked awful. You can see no one cares about this office (3rd Red Flag). I went down the road to Public Storage. Very clean office and everyone was very nice at Public Storage, I got a 10x10 Climate space for $148 a month instead of the Life storage 10x10 climate space for $222 online price. It's my first time using a storage facility and I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to do with Life Storage. It was not stressful and I was able to complete most of the application online. They have a few units of different sizes (5'x5', 5'x10', and 10'x10) with indoor (air conditioned) or outdoor units available.

If you decide to rent space, you'll pay some upfront fees (service charge/insurance) and then after its just a monthly fee to keep the space. You're able to access your unit any day even when the office is closed from early in the morning until about 10 pm at night--so pretty much all day. There is an entry code that you'll put up front that will open the gates and allow you to access the facility.

They also have packing supplies (e.g. boxes, tape) if you need to buy some and also a complimentary van that you can borrow to help move. However, this amenity was not available during my use because of the current COVID-19 situation.

One thing to note for indoor storage units, they are multiple lights that will illuminate the hallway and a separate one to illuminate your actual unit. It was not apparent to me and I had to get assistance from the...
