This location has quite a long walk to the beach. But I'm not taking of the one star simply for the long walk but the quality of the walk as well. We would like them to put a walkway in so that the walk isn't so difficult. I difficult I mean there's a lot of debris that you have to walk around . During the time we ate had visited last there is a lot of rain so the pathway was flooded and you had to walk along the side where it's fenced off leaving a very narrow and treacherous walk unless you were going to walk into the fenced off location.
Another minis to this location is the restrooms. The restrooms are probably a good 10 minutes walk from the beach so plan on using them before the beach otherwise remember you'll have a 10 minute walk to get there.
That said it does make for more secluded beach. Although each time we've gone there have been quite a few people and this was in the late season.
If you go during the season it is a $15 parking fee. this fee allows you to park anywhere in the park and there are probably a good half-dozen places to park both with most of the parking on the Oceanside but the Gunnison parking is closer to the inlet side . You have to cross the road to get to the beach.
number to bring food or drinks when you go here as there is only a set of vending machines for drinks. We did notice the price on the vending machines was quite cheap actually. this makes the visit more enjoyable as you're not being gouged by high prices for beverages.
are outside shower so you can wash...
Read moreVery cool Sandy Hook is a vastly underated beach. Great day of exploration or just chilling in the sun. Never really gets too busy. These old barracks are amazing. Basically all the installation were built to last and there coming up on about a hundred fifty years. All the inherant danger of exploring ruins but the exitement too. It hard to imagine the New Jersey version of a dessert island fortress but it exists so you should probably check it out! Couldn't remember how to access the main guns but remember from sea camp there's quite a bit underground. If anyone happens in there make sure you have a flashlight (like a real one because you don't want to die from dropping your phone) and a buddy that place was full of pitfalls. I definitely gotta go back when I have more...
Read moreThere is a very peculiar beach almost three quarters of a mile away from the battery. Tourists visiting NYC and come from as far away as Asia go visit it at great effort. On weekends, many sun bathers come to the beach to soak up the sun and the beautiful seashore. From the beach one can see part of NYC, the Verrazano bridge, the cruise ships leaving the harbor, container ships, fishermen fishing off of boats, and migratory sea birds nesting to lay their eggs. The battery is located inside the Sandy Hook National Seashore. You will not be disappointed if you visit the national seashore. It is reachable by ferry from Manhattan and by car via the Garden State Thruway. Come in late Summer when the conditions are better, warmer ocean temperatures, and less...
