The Dipsea/Steep Ravine loop has a little bit of everything-waterfalls, wooden bridges, steps, old growth redwoods, ocean views and even a ladder! I started at Pantoll and did a counterclockwise loop. This is an extraordinarily beautiful and scenic trail. Lots and lots of steps, bring a hiking stick. Pantoll lot is small, so arrive early if you wish to park in the lot. $8 parking fee. Restrooms at Pantoll are portapotties. Most of the trail is single track and Mt Tam can get very busy, so it can be hard to social distance on this trail unless you start early. I started at 7 am and only encountered a handful of other hikers along the way. “The Ladder” is really cool and one of the funnest parts of the trail.

Great trail especially a few days after the rain. The stream is flowing and the forest is lush. The trail is completely covered. It’s usually a lot cooler in the ravine so it prefect for a hike. Parking is very limited so come early. There are no fees to get in. There are restrooms a ranger station at the end of the trail at Pantoll campground. Be aware that there’s a 10ft ladder that you need to climb to continue the trail. There are many trail that branch out from this trail including the Dipsea trail that will take you into Muir Woods.

A beautiful mix of deep forest, creek, and open space. The trail starts in the deep shade and is often damp and a bit slick. It is also steep in places and has wooden ladders (all in good condition as of this review) so you need to be a confident hiker. This is probably not the best trail for families with little kids. While you are likely to see other people, every time I have hiked here it has stayed relatively uncrowded. This is a great hike to pair with Stinson Beach nearby!
