Discovered Gordon's when it was at the old location, and even when I lived 40 mins away would make a trip once every month or so to fill the freezer. I didn't get paid for this review lol, I just really like this place and if you're on the fence about trying it I'm hoping to convince you.
Freshest meat in the county along with cleanliness IMO - everything is visible of their process so you can confirm that yourself. There is a price point here for everyone, the sausage is 100x better than anything you can get at a big box (and very reasonably priced), the burgers great, and if you want to splurge then the steaks, roasts, seafood, and custom house made specials are an easy dinner option, and make a quick but quality+ meal.
Deli food is top notch, pasta salad is better than what we homemake and that's saying something as our go-to dish for events is homemade pasta salad. Sliced meats and cheeses are clearly targeted towards an erie crowd (Smith's olive loaf might be the best thing ever). They also have an entire selection of local bread and unique items to the Erie area that you can purchase. There is basically something for everyone here.
Finally stopped at Firestone's for the first time - the kitchen is spotless. Same as the Gordon's side, you can see the entire process and as a person who worked in kitchens for a decade...it was remarkable. I was trying to find something dirty visually and failed. Owner came over and chatted with me a bit and was very friendly. Not to mention he's one of the top chefs in the Erie area.
My advice? Get your subs and sushi from wegmans - but not your meat. Come here, grab a drink, an app or dinner, and load up a basket so you can grill some and freeze a lot more, it's fully...
Read moreAfter living in Erie for 17 years wife and I finally got sick of snow and moved to sunny Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago. Having been used to shopping at Gordons when we lived in Erie, we had been looking for a good butcher shop since we got here and found none. I heard a friend of mine purchased Gordon's. Wanting to do the friend thing and support him I decided to place an order. I figured Id do it once and then I could say I covered my friend responsibilities. Well, after receiving my first order, I can say I finally found a good butcher shop and l'll be ordering from Gordon's regularly. First of all the meat is spectacular...The NY strips were thick cut and had really nice marbling. The filet's were perfectly cut and about 3" thick, both the pork and the chuck roasts were beautiful. We're really excited to see how their homemade sausages taste. Ordered the hot and the sweet. It was nice to get a little hometown flavor with the Stefanelli's Sponge Candy (they've never even heard of sponge candy down here) and Smiths Kielbasa. The best part of it all was the packaging. As I said, I'm in Phoenix and the day it was delivered it was 104 degrees here. There's been many a time we've order items that needed icing and when we opened the packages what was inside was melted or hot (like the wine I just got in...paid extra for the ice pack and the bottles were still over 90* when I opened the package). The meat was ice cold. It was shipped in a Styrofoam cooler with not 1 or 2 but 3 ice packs. Each item was wrapped in plastic then butcher paper then plastic bagged. Over all I am was hoping it would be a decent experience but sincerely, it was awesome....
Read moreI came into the store with my 2 year old son and 10 year old daughter. I thought they would have carts, I have never been here so I wouldn't know. Well they didn't have carts. BUMMER! I'm trying to juggle my son and shopping list for over a months worth of meat. No one greets me or acknowledges me. I have questions and they look at me like I should know. This is not a set up I am used to. I usually go to Bellos but wanted to give this place a shot. Bellos has everything packaged and ready, Gordons is set up like a deli. Well again I am spending alot of money here and I am buying alot of products. Every time I ask for something... "Is that it... is that it" look I'll tell you when I am finished ordering. The people who worked there just stared at me the entire time. Don't offer to help me carry over 150 dollars worth of meat around while juggling my children. Even when I checked out no conversation.... I found things by the checkout I didn't see before which were on my list. So I proceeded to put them with my items. Again " IS that it... is that it... completely rude. The woman cashing me out couldn't figure out what meat was what and how many I had so people behind me were upset. All and all I may go back when I have the opportunity to go with out my children, but I may find another local store to spend my hard earned money where people are friendly and...
