This area of the river, under the "Hy. 794" viaduct, behind Summerfest, was a very popular place to go smelt fishing using pull-up nets to catch the smelt fish by the five gallon buckets full! There were so many people (families) on the weekends, that you had to come early in the evening to get an open spot! Then they would fish all night until sun up! At it's height, many caught 100+ pounds of smelt! This would be a "party" atmosphere with many drinking beers and grilling food with the family and/or friends! It lasted for years, but eventually the smelt fishing slowed to a stop because of over-fishing etc. and the fish moving out of the area! Very memorable nights and a lot of "Good Times" were had by all! Great...

Adding benches, improving the surrounding walkaways, roadsides, and green space would add time spent there, adding in more Native landscapes.
