This is specifically a weight room review and not for the rest of the facility.
The weight room is pretty typical for a modern-day gym. About half of the floor is full of machines and the other half has various flat benches, squat racks, and a dumbbell rack. Just up the stairs you will find a reasonable selection of cardio machines. Unfortunately, there's a lot missing. First, there aren't any platforms or bumper plates so don't expect to do any Olympic lifts here. Second, the gym doesn't have a deadlift jack so if you deadlift heavy you're going to have a harder time loading the bar. Third and most egregiously is that CHALK IS NOT ALLOWED, which is an extremely silly and ignorant rule. Not using chalk while lifting weights, especially with barbells is a bad idea, and any properly equipped weight room should have chalk provided.
Beyond the missing equipment is the fact that you will be chewed out for making significant noise while lifting, particularly while deadlifting. The reason for this is that the facility seems to have been designed by bureaucrats and not by people who were actually knowledgeable about designing a fitness facility, because the weight room is on an upper floor directly above some staff offices. Said staff members will complain about the noise to the student staff that works in the weight room, who in turn are obligated to tell people to not "slam the weights" when in reality there was no slamming being done. It's an obnoxious setup but not deal breaking.
Overall, it's a decent place for strength training, but the lack of key equipment and obnoxious rules force me to give it a 3 out of 5 stars. Anyone interested in strength training can get a reasonable start here, but if they become interested in more serious lifting they should spend the extra cash to join a proper gym for...

Black and Gold reigns supreme through the heavily utilized basketball courts and weight room, especially on Monday nights!
The K is an absolute essential piece of the student life at UWM. Through camaraderie and our mutual journey, we keep each other motivated to work purposefully through every effortful rep.
Plenty of space for stretching, rooms for group classes, and a raised track 8 laps to a mile, there are excellent options for exploring multiple fitness approaches.
Can the maintenance staff please pay closer attention to the cleanliness of the sauna?
I would greatly appreciate if the sauna floor and the first two steps of bench seating were wiped down and clearly sanitized at least once a week.
The K is very special to us Panthers. I strongly recommend stopping in for a workout...
Read moreUWM students get a free membership to the facility, and they have reasonable prices for families. My husband's membership is only $75 per semester (about $19/month), and compared to the facilities available at cheaper gyms, this is a bargain.
Spacious weight room, plenty of cardio machines, lovely track and several basketball and racquetball courts. The pool is open to members everyday for certain hours as well.
The place gets busy during the school year, especially mid evening, but you usually don't have to wait to long for a machine, but you will probably need to have the courage to ask a swimmer to share lanes...
