Came across this place while looking for something to do in Milwaukee since I’m here for a few days and visiting this place was well with the admission price. Mr. Benson had a wealth of knowledge that he was willing to share. I actually walked in on him talking to a group of local youth. To me this was more of an exhibit than a typical museum I’m used to visiting; but to learn about the events that happened in Milwaukee that impacted black civil rights nationally was very enlightening. Glad I came and helped support the local preservation of black history!

The curator was very knowledgeable. He gave me a great tour even though I didn’t call ahead to arrange a tour. This place is full of information! I loved the beautiful paintings and pictures. There is a lot of reading so make sure you have some time before you go.

My husband and I always search out black history museums were we visit new places. This place did not disappoint.

The Mr Clayborn's daughter Jamilla, initially told us there was no one in house at the moment to give a tour so she would conduct a tour for us. Well we were overwhelmed with the knowledge she imparted on us. I felt like we were sitting at a dining room table have supper. She was very impressive and had GREAT stories.

We consider ourselves has history buffs, but she gave us more than what we anticipated. Then, Mr Clayborn walked it. Such a handsome young fella. Again, very impressed with both of them.

Hopefully, when you visit you will also get to know Jeremy the Archivist. Please take time out of your day and support this museum. You will not be disappointed.

PS: Jamilla, I am still going to search for...

The Wisconsin Black Historical Society is a highly recommended place to frequent. It is a great cultural and historical learning experience for schools, individuals, or family trips. I've been there a number of times, including the annual Fresh Perspective Urban Heroes Art exhibit.

The founder Mr. Clayborn Benson is very knowledgeable and passionate about Black History. This is definitely a gem nestled in the heart of the community.

Give them a call and schedule a visit or during their regular hours. There is a parking lot in the rear of the building for your convenience. This museum is a...
