I give it 5 stars for remote control rock crawlers. ..it is a crawler / scaler paradise if you dont mind fighting for limited parking followed by a 1/3 -1/2 mile walk in ..the trail is solid and you have many many different types of terrain from bumpy hills to water fall climbs its a rc crawlers paradise. Plus you have river there for water toys and fishing too but leave the under 10 yr olds at home because of how rough it gets with the chunky funky lava rocky surface

This is my new favorite place! Handicap accessible to a point, then it's Rocky and rough. Bring the dogs, on leash until the river. This is how you get over to Elk Rock island. Some wading through the river may be required. I haven't done it yet because of high water. Be careful if river is high. Debris, currents are dangerous, and you won't see the river bottom to cross to rocks in river!

as others have noted, this is a hidden gem not too far from Sellwood. It really does not feel like Portland at all. the park has lots of thistles & things that will catch on your clothes so it’s best to wear closed toed shoes. you can access the water from the beach area or from the docks. it’s such a breathtaking spot and not very busy at all (i went on a Monday afternoon).

This WAS a great park. These days, almost everyone feels entitled to let their questionable dogs off leash which is a huge liability check that they nor the city is ready to be cashed. It's impossible to trust any of the dogs as agro and friendly alike will walk up without their negligent yet entitled owner putting in an ounce of effort to control them. I completely understand why natural parks are moving towards no dogs allowed even though it would hardly cost more for the slightest amount of enforcement - not to mention the citations alone would fund that department. Graffiti everywhere, the park feels overgrown and unwelcomingly wild. When there's wild teasle (invasive) growing directly beside the trailhead whose to say the last time a tech walked the path. Good luck walking around the island trails, that's a complete mess of grass, bramble, and trees growing into the extremely narrowed path making it uncomfortable to pass through. At least commit to maintaining the primary outer path. Brush cutter walk...

Five stars if your looking for a place to play with a rc rock crawler or scaler..or even any other wheeled vehicle plus youve got the river to play with a water going rc boat or sailboat. ..a bit rocky for flying drones or planes but so many different conditions for rock crawlers from easy cheesy for newbies to the water fall we tried to conquer today. Plenty of swimming and kickin back places and of course theres plenty of places to cast out looking for that monster lunker Con. Hardly any parking room and at least a quarter or third of a mile walk to ger to river but it is on a established wide kinda concreted walkway and theres some play along way if you cant make it to river. ..i wouldnt recommend it for young kids like under 10 because of rough rocky...
