Peavey Plaza

Peavey Park Plaza is a popular public gathering area and event space in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. Designed by landscape architect M. Paul Friedman and constructed from 1974-75, the park was designed to connect Nicollet Mall to Loring Park and provide a relaxing oasis for urban pedestrians. The sunken, multi-tiered space is an historically significant example of the Modernist aesthetic, incorporating Prairie/Wrightian style elements in its complex, formed concrete fountains and recreation areas.

Peavey Park Plaza is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and, in consultation with its original architect, is undergoing an historically-sensitive reconstruction/revitalization to improve its ADA accessibility, add new plantings, and restore winter ice skating to its central basin.
