Skyline Arch was a nice surprise for us—it’s smaller than some of the other famous arches in the park, but it’s still incredibly beautiful and unique. The best part? It’s super easy to access. The hike is only about half a mile one way, mostly flat, and perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to spend hours on the trails, or someone who is older and not as agile.
We didn’t expect it to be so dramatic once we got close. The arch sits up high on the rock face, and you get this cool view of it framed against the sky, which gives it a really striking presence. The fact that it’s high up makes it feel a little more special, like you’ve earned the view—even though the hike is so easy.
The thing that really stood out for us was the feeling of solitude. While other spots in the park can be crowded, we didn’t see many people here, so we had some quiet moments to enjoy the arch in peace. After some time, two boys started climbing the arch, which wasn't cool. They were very reckless. People were talking to them and they didn't care. So dangerous for the rocks...
Read moreThe Skyline Arch is one of the many unique land formations that you will see during your visit to Arches National Park just north of Moab, Utah. This particular arch is just south of Devil's Garden Campground.
You can visit Skyline Arch by way of a short and easy .3 kilometre walk. Do take note of the historical photos near the trailhead sign. They show the arch before and after a large boulder fell in 1940, doubling the size of the arch formation here.
In the end, we found this to be a nice and easy arch to visit, a good short walk for those with families and those seeking lighter hikes during their visit to the NP.
Note: You are just south of the campground and picnic area at Devils Garden. This is a good spot for day time visitors to grab a spot for lunch in...
Read moreSkyline Arch Trail is short enough to be overlooked when you are planning your trip to Arches, but the impressive rock span at the end of the short trail is worth checking out. Located near the Devils Garden Trailhead this 0.4-mile round trip hike ascends 50 feet to the base of a sandstone fin that opens in a large elevated natural arch. A panel at the trailhead tells how a large block of sandstone fell from Skyline Arch in 1940, doubling the size of the arch overnight. Currently, the arch measures 71 feet across and 33.5 feet tall. Boulders from the collapse remain, and can be seen below the arch today. We had limited time, so we observed this from the pull out on the road and continued toward...
