We stumbled into this sleepy downtown venue on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Assuming to find a one room collection of papers and history notes, we were amazed at the detail and precision upon entering the Monett Historical Musuem. We were greeted by the best volunteers. Educated in the towns rich history, he gave us a personal tour of every room (there are multiple rooms and two levels!). Adding personal stories. Enthusiasm and genuine knowledge of his hometown. I learned and saw things i never knew about Missouri or the significance and impact such a small town had to offer back in the railroad days. My kids were encouraged by the heartwarming stories of these small town heros , changing lives all over the world, no matter where they came from. Definitely take the time to stop in, give yourself one hour or more to really enjoy each display and collection that was so thoughtfully put together. P.s. it's free!!

This place is amazing! We were provided a personal tour by Skip when we showed up on a Sunday and they were closed (hours according to Google at the time showed Sunday being open). Skip graciously not only let us in but personally walked us through all the exhibits and told us a LOT of amazing history. Monett was such a wonderful bustling city back in the day! It's still a great place and this museum shows just how great it has been since its inception. This building holds personal significance with my wife and myself as we were very close to purchasing this building back in 2009. I'm very glad that we didn't as we would not have been able to restore this building as well as it has been restored. It has really been brought back to its original glory. And, we were thrilled to find that they left all the original doorways upstairs. Come pay this place a visit. You will be so glad you did.
