Went on a foggy rainy day and got some horror movie type photos of the outside. My husband was surprised that the doors were actually open when we drove by the base of the monument so we decided to brave the rain and walk there. The bathrooms near the parking lot were convenient, but dirty. Also, there was toilet paper, but the holder opened up while I was trying to get a square, and I got a pinhole-sized scrape on my knuckle. Nothing a bandaid didn't fix, but would probably recommend more secure tp holder latches to keep that from happening. Once we got to the monument, the park ranger is at the entrance and we paid $1 for each of us for admission. There is a spiral staircase to get to the main square staircase flights that lead to the "top" of the monument.

Spoiler alert: be prepared to be unamazed by the nothingness at the top of the many flights of stairs. Most the the rectangle "porthole" windows are frosted over with limescale from the water or just dirty. Wear comfy shoes since the metal stairs are plentiful and somewhat slippery especially since we just came in from the rain. People with large feet like size 13+ need to be extra careful since my husband had to slow his pace to descend safely. Not a convenient tourist attraction for people with mobilty challenged disabilities since it is completely stairwells after your enter the front door.

The outdoor area surrounding the obelisk is naturally beautiful. If it wasn't foggy, it would've definitely been nicer. Would come back on a sunny day to take better outdoor shots, but would not climb those stairs again unless they changed the window sizes to see out of them and possibly have something better at the top of all the stairs. Great...

Highest Point in NJ!... to then also build something tall at?

It's weird enough to review a Monument, it's even yet weirder to build a Spike that you can't access, at the Highest Point in your State.

This is the Highest Point in the New Jersey, but if you want to find the Geological Marker that states that you have to go hunting to an area of rocks that is neglected and does not appear high in relation to a marble lined Washington Monument look alike.

This is an underwhelming experience. We hiked it because that's what you should do to get to the Highest Point in any state, and were met with flurries of tourists who drove to it.

There are 360 degree views, the best of which are of New York and Pennsylvania, not NJ.

A few steps further back you can look at the monument from a far on an Observation Deck, but the amount of people trying to jock for position makes this also un-fun.

See it, Don't see it, even if you tell someone you went to the Tallest Point in NJ, you would be embarrassed to show them the photos you got from there.

This site is a metaphor for New Jersey, take something meaningful and put a road and a monument on top of it, thereby devaluing the whole experience. NJ for the...
