We stayed at the Lone Oak Lodge when passing through Monterey on our west coast tour in June 2023. The motel is obviously an older motel. But it looks in very good condition and has had very good renovations. Although the property could use new pavement in the parking area. The old cracked pavement is functional. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked into our room. Most of the furniture is new including a firm memory foam mattress, which we ourselves own and prefer. The sink, fixtures and shower are very nice and modern. Plantation shutters make the window treatments much nicer than the typical shades most motels use. The walls are done well and painted in eye pleasing colors. We really liked the flooring in our room. All in all, a really good looking room. It could use a larger TV. But the smaller TV works fine. Honestly, we have been staying at a lot of hotels and motels lately and found the Lone Oak Lodge's room to be nicer than most. Our room has a lot of 120volt outlets for our needs. I went around and counted 12 unused sockets, plus a USB and a USB-C outlet for what most folks would ever need to plug in as far as devices and such. Wireless Internet was good. Our room had 2 types of rolling and swivel type chairs for use at the table or desk area. I used one at the desk and the other on the opposite side of the bed which had a lot of room. We also had a refrigerator and microwave oven. The shower is very modern with good pressure. It also has probably the softest water we have ever used. Maybe not, but it's very soft. Although there is no shelve for ladies to shave their legs. So they will have to improvise. The toilet works very well, but also makes a strong flush. This can be noticeable at night. Our room had good lighting outside the room in both front and back. The Red Roof inn directly behind the Lone Oak Lodge has a lot of lighting as well. So our bathroom was well lit at night. So no need for a night light there. Although the desk could use a light. I had to use the sink light to light up the desk. The bathroom window is frosted for privacy. And you can open both the front and bathroom windows for airflow. The sink is great and I can use it without feeling it's too far away like most motels/hotels. The mirror is heated. So it will not steam up, even if you forget to use the fan when showering. The closet section isn't great. It is kind of in the way in the sink area, and had no hangers. But it had a couple of hooks. We did hear a couple of jets taking off from the airport close by. But I only noticed a couple while there. And honestly, they didn't seem drastically loud. None of them were at night. The room was pretty quiet when we stayed. And we parked right in front of our room. We slept the best in a month sleeping on our style mattress. It being new probably also helped. We paid about $100 per night including taxes in June, 2023. Honestly, I felt it more than reasonable. We paid much more for much less quite a few times lately. That being said, I rate the Lone Oak Lodge at 5 stars, that I rarely give out for lodging. I tend to focus on what an inn gives you at a price point rather than what it doesn't. As such, I feel that the Lone Oak is a rare gem you may want to consider. We changed our plans and stayed more than one night in Monterey. That decision was heavily influenced by how much we liked the room we had at the Lone Oak.

Our overall stay was nice, the room was clean, the kitchen and bath counters looked new and the location was perfect and the diver rinse area was great. If I were to rate the hotel I would give it a 1.5 and an extra 0.5 for the rinse area making it a total of 2 stars. The reason is there were so many things either wrong or we did not have based on the website info that instead of getting upset we could only laugh at it. We were in room #46. At first glance, it was like a clean old house with old furniture. I had to fix 1 end table drawer, the drawer for the desk and stove because all were off their slider. Half of the drapes were unhooked and hanging down. Things I found later was that the fireplace only worked on one temp and the flame light didn't work. The fan had no way to turn it on. When I asked I was told it wasn't supposed to work because we had AC but room #1 that was remodeled had both and they both worked. The kitchen chairs were all rusted. Most of the cabinets would not close. Also, upon reading the website info, it said we should have a safe, flowers, and cable channels. We didn't have the first 2 and if we had cable channels we could find them. I do have pictures of everything and for the cost of our room, I think we were overcharged. One other problem is the firepit. There isn't a sign on it saying it was out of order. Our group had a gathering there and two of the guys had to go fill the propane tank and the pilot and control never worked properly. We were able to make it work but it should be repaired or replaced. To me, it appears there are new owners of the hotel and they have overlooked many things while trying to remodel it. We weren't the only people in our group that had issues and that's why it all became comical. The sad part is I was the one who told everyone to stay at the Lone Oak based on info I received from friends a couple of years back.

Went on a family vacation with 7 of us total. We got the suite so that we could all be together. Everything looked great, we were happy upon arrival with the rooms and how clean it was. If you get a suite it has a small patio area that is perfect for hanging out. It has a fire pit, heater and outdoor furniture. The suite has two rooms and one bathroom, it has two refrigerators and one microwave, a small table and two chairs for eating, and a desk. I absolutely loved that the suite is a stand alone building so you have nobody above you or next to you. It's basically a small house. We went outside in the evening to enjoy a few drinks and relax but when we tried to turn on the fire pit and heater we got nothing. That was a disappointment. The tvs were on the smaller side and older, the pillows were not comfortable at all and could use an upgrade, the beds were pretty stiff but doable. When we were outside trying to get the fireplace and heater to work we saw a whole army of rats running along the plants that were growing on the fence line. To be clear we never saw any inside but it was a concern that they were right on the property and going under and above the units. They should have some rodent boxes all over the property and we didn't see any.

We made reservations for three nights, we were so excited to come the day before leaving for the trip. My son came down with RSV and was hospitalized. They refused to refund the full of amount and charged me $131. For cancellation.. they told me it was going to be the booking company. That was going to charge me, but the booking company actually sent the hotel an email and ask them to not charge me the cancellation fee and they denied. I will put a screenshot of that below as a single mom who was just trying to get a good birthday trip with her four-year-old son and ended up having to Cancel it due to critical illness, they just want your money. They don’t care about you as a customer, so as a hard working single mom, I’m out $131 I because my child in the hospital . Don’t book with them. **I did call you directly and Booking.com sent you an email. You had a chance to not charge us $131. And you made the choice to not care. ***
