The museum is beautiful, it’s a beautiful space to rent for any event. However, some of the staff is arrogant and dishonest. There is no such thing as a wedding coordinator, do not let them rope you into thinking so, also make sure that the person whom is aiding in hosting your event with you actually understands their job and it’s not their FIRST time doing an event. Our wedding was like any other wedding day, with all of the unplanned chaos that comes into play. What is a wedding coordinators job? From my understanding it’s to ensure that everything is running smoothly while the bride and groom get themselves ready, ensure that all of the decor is well placed according to the written map that’s provided by the museum events team, ensure that guests make their way to the reception space awaiting the newlyweds. Had we known the entire truth from the beginning ( that there is no such thing as a wedding coordinator at the museum even though that’s how one of that staff members presented herself to us ) we would have still chosen the museum but would have hired an actual coordinator. Connie Reed is the NASTIEST director / manager i have ever spoken to, the arrogance of her attitude is astounding. When your staff isn’t truthful in their title representation of your business, and pay a great deal of money for a service and event space, how do you turn around and make it the customers fault and basically call them liars when there are many witnesses to what happened / what was said. Ask tons of questions and repeat them, so you may never experience...
Read moreThe short: our 4th grade field trip was a SMASH success. Kids had a blast, adults kept their sanity - and I daresay, felt very Zen.
The long: Kailyn, Cara, and Diane had masterful classroom management skills - positively captivating - meaning they were so positive that the kids were captivated and well-behaved.
Booking this field trip was SUPER easy. Kailyn was very flexible and easy to work with. This is the first field trip I planned at this school (my 2nd year), and it went off without a hitch; i.e. made me look like a champ.
We did the Native American tour, and it was engaging, informative, AND hands-on. Absolutely wonderful. I imagine the other tours would be just as perfect.
The Spark! Lab was a wonderful STEM experience - each activity was engaging and fun. Going into detail would add another chapter to this novel of a review.
The flow from museum tour to Spark! Lab to lunch was seamless. The routes through the museum and flow of all moving parts was ingenious; not a single second was wasted.
There ARE limits to how many people you can bring on the trip, so we had to split up the 4th grade (4 sections) over two days. Not a big deal, but it might throw a wrench in your planning machine. This was the only con. The pros outweigh this tenfold.
If you're going to do a field trip here, you MUST add the Spark! Lab to your field trip package - to skip this is just plain irresponsible.
The kids had a BLAST and the teachers and parents had an easy time. No stress. Period. Going to book...
Read morePROS: Inexpensive, great location, interesting exhibits, best gem & mineral collection CONS: Broken exhibits, broken elevator
My large family and I spent about 3 hours here on a Tuesday afternoon during the Passover break. As soon as we got there, the docent told us there would be a live demo (the only one of the day) where they would play some of the large music boxes in the collection. This was really not a good presentation for smaller kids, since there was a lot of talk and not so much action. However, they do have a hands-on kids' lab where you can create some punch paper music for a box.
My kids and I particularly enjoyed the train exhibits. The larger train exhibit downstairs actually had buttons that controlled various features in the large and detailed model train.
The gem and mineral collection is excellent, one of the best I've seen in a smaller museum. They had many large specimens that the children enjoyed touching and learning about.
The only negative thing I can say about this museum is that many of the listening exhibits in the music box collection were broken. In addition, the elevator was broken, necessitating leaving our stroller downstairs whilst we perused the upstairs exhibits.
There's no food here, only a few snacks for purchase in the gift shop. The gift shop had many affordable items for both children and adults.
I would definitely visit this...
