I recently completed my sailing test and I owe a massive debt of gratitude to my instructor, Chris. Not only did he guide me through all the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the sailing requirements, but more importantly, he helped me cultivate a genuine sense of confidence on the water. I was particularly apprehensive about hiking among other things. However, Chris's endless patience and remarkable ability to teach with such clarity completely transformed my perspective. I no longer fear the heeling and in fact, I'm starting to enjoy it and have taken my wife out on the boat. Chris is more than just a technically proficient instructor. His passion for sailing shown in his racing career is contagious, and his genuine care for his students' progress is evident in every lesson. Beyond Chris, I also want to give a shoutout to the wonderful staff at the boathouse. They are always ready to lend a hand, offer helpful advice, and create a welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks to Brent and Raphael for their friendly support and willingness to assist...
Read moreWe rented a paddle boat after getting an email saying reservations would be online and limited by time, so we thought this would be a covid-safe outing. We were wrong. Granted we went on a Sunday afternoon, we knew the park would be busy but we thought our online reservation would get us straight on the boat. Nope.
There was a giant line just to get to the pier, NOT socially distanced and only a handful of customers wearing masks (all employees wore masks). I finally get to the front and am told I have to get in ANOTHER line to get a ticket proving my online purchase. What was the point of my online reservation?!! I was exposed to sooo many people and the whole experience was chaos which the high schoolers running things could not control. At one point they ran out of life vests.
We got on the boat about an hour after our reservation time. Once on the water it was fine, but coming back we had to go through a giant crowd on the dock waiting to get on, none wearing masks. It was awful. We will not be...
Read moreThis place can be HIT or MISS depending on the direction of the breeze! When it's a HIT, it's a nice lake with windsurfers and little rowboats and pedal boats; peaceful place to just sit and relax or walk around. Bring an old blanket to sit on as the birds will leave their squirts without a care. There are plenty of these ducks and geese lurking around where the people are trying to snag a treat. Several trails are around the area for riding bikes or walking which are pleasurable to stroll. On a MISS day, they'll be a breeze off the bay, and it will reek and almost take your breath away! The cafe is also a hit or miss whether it will be open or not. There are restrooms there which make it helpful. On the trails around the lake, a lot of birds can be seen, but the scenery becomes quite monotonous. Parking is also tricky because the...
