Shoreline Park in Mountain View, CA, is a scenic outdoor space that offers a mix of walking trails, open green spaces, and a peaceful lake with boating options. It used to be a tranquil retreat, but since Google expanded its campus next door, the park has become significantly more crowded. The increase in foot traffic, especially on weekends, has somewhat diminished the peaceful atmosphere it once had.
Despite the added crowding, Shoreline Park remains a great place to visit. The well-maintained trails provide stunning views of the bay, making it an excellent spot for walking, jogging, or biking. The lake adds to the charm, and watching the sailboats glide across the water is always a calming sight. The park is also home to diverse wildlife, including a variety of birds, which makes it an enjoyable spot for nature lovers.
We continue to visit regularly with friends and family, as the park still offers plenty of open space for picnics and relaxation. If you're looking for a scenic outdoor escape in the Bay Area, it's still worth visiting—just be prepared for larger crowds. Some additional parking and infrastructure improvements could help manage the growing number of visitors more...
Read moreShoreline park is great for the following activities: 1) boating. There are sail boats, sail boards, paddle boats and canoes available for rent. 2) kite flying. The breeze is very consistent and you can find others flying kites at the main entrance. 3) biking/hiking/rollerblading. There are several miles of paved trails which connect to places like the Palo Alto airport, the marshes around Moffett field, and the Stevens Creek Trail. 4) Rengstorf House. An historic Victorian House restored by the city of Mountain View. You can visit the grounds anytime the park is open. They also have select hours when they give outside tours (you need to check in advance for your times. If you just show up they will likely be closed).
Things you can't do there. 1) swim. The lake is not safe for swimming. 2) bring your pet. The park is a sensitive nesting area so dos and cats are not allowed.
There are two food places, one lakeside with quick takeout to food and Michaels by the golf course for a nice sit down meal.
There is also a new children's pay area with a sand pit and nautical themed...
Read moreShoreline park in Mountain View has become one of my favorite parks after I visited it .
We visited on Memorial Day weekend and the weather was sunny with cold breeze coming from the lake making us feel cold . I hope it feels good in summer days .
Like others have mentioned you can rent paddle boat , kayak or bike. We rented 4 seater paddle boat at 35$ for an hour . My 3 years old toddler loved the ride .
The trail around the lake is flat and stroller friendly. I saw people walking, running and biking on the trail. Kids were riding the bike and scooter too .There are enough places for picnic or just to hang out with friends and family . There are very less shaded places . So that might be a problem during summer .
The restroom was the best part as I am 30 weeks pregnant and I had to use it very often lol. Rarely I find restroom so close and clean in any park .
There is a restaurant but what we did is we went to google visitor experience center after this and had our lunch at their cafe which was amazing. You must try their...
