First, if you expect fresh sheets and towels. This is not the place for you. We LOVE this camp ground! We camp in a tent. For a family of 4 to stay at the beach for a weekend for under $100 is amazing! Try to get a site near the beach. Won't have to drive and not a very long walk. Wifi doesn't work unless your camping near the office or campground store. But nice to use while you wash clothes or wait on family in the showers. Bathrooms near the store are the nicer of the whole camp ground. There's several play grounds for kids. They also have a nature center there, which is great check out before you leave head home (or any time) Love that the park has a pier, so if you're camping you won't have to pay to access it. There's police who patrols at night. Was kinda annoying to hear them drive slow at night, but did put our mind at ease to know they were there keeping an eye out. Also, you get used to the airplanes and helicopters that fly over during the day. Kids loved sit on the beach and watch them pass over us. We didn't really leave the park.it's self except to go to the grocery store (food lion 5 minutes up the road!) and to visit the sister Park, Huntington Beach State Park, see the alligators. And visit the nature center they had there (sadly, it recently burned down 😢) If you're on a budget and want to be at the beach. This is the place, no golf carts with wild kids, no drinking, no loud music. Perfect place for our vacations! Can't wait be...
Read moreLocated in the center of downtown Myrtle Beach, the state park is absolutely beautiful. Compared to all other RV parks in the area, the price is fantastic. It does lack family friendly amenities such as pools, waterparks and on-site wifi… but for being in nature in the middle of a tourist town, this park does their job well.
The online reservation system was very nice because you are able to pick a specific spot with a specific number of nights. You can see when a specific site is available and you can pay online.
Inside the park, the sites people are packed together very tightly and the overall feeling inside the park feels more a festival than it does standard camping. Someone looking for the nature typically found in a state park might feel that their layout is a little too close for comfort.
There are a few full-hookup sites, but the majority of the spaces are water and electric only. There is a dump station conveniently located on your way out of the park, so for most people it’s a fair compromise. There is no wifi except for right outside of the ranger’s station and alcohol is frowned on because they are a family-friendly park.
The beach was within a three-minute walk--which was awesome. Pets are allowed in the park, but are not allowed on the beach after May 1. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will likely return with this being our top choice for staying in downtown...
Read moreOn Friday 4/12 we tried to enter the MBSP campground to get into our empty spot at 11:30. We knew the spot was empty b/c we had family in the spot next-door. We were turned away at the gate and told to go to the Food Lion parking lot and come back at 2:00, by a very rude park employee. We could not come into the park with a travel trailer, we could not pay to check in early, we could not go to our EMPTY spot until then. This is ridiculous, if the spot is empty people should be allowed to go to their spot or pay an early entry fee. After traveling all morning, you just want to get settled and relax. This is going to rub many people the wrong way. We got kicked out of the Food Lion parking lot for loitering – the SC employee at the gate should not be telling people to go to that business parking lot to “hang out” until you are allowed to enter the park. On Saturday we noticed several people arriving and setting up before 2 pm. We were denied that on Friday, so how do you select who comes in and who doesn’t? On our way back to the park there was a board in the road which we could not swerve to avoid, it ended up popping 2 of our trailer tires. This turned out to be an expensive weekend. We will not be back to ANY SC park with this inconvenient...
