Trefethen was our second stop during our first-ever trip to Napa, and we were thrilled we had chosen it.
Kate was our hostess, who we immediately adored. She is a BLAST, such a bubbly and warm personality, but also extremely knowledgeable (she's a Napa native!) and professional.
Our tasting fell on a Thursday, and it turns out Trefethen does Throwback Thursday, where they choose bottles from their library to include with your tasting. Our throwback bottle happened to be a 1994 chardonnay, and it.was.PHENOMENAL. Neither of us have ever really enjoyed chards, so to be honest we were underwhelmed when it was brought out. However, it's 25 years of aging showed us that even whites should definitely be aged! Holy smokes it was incredible. We immediately asked about purchasing a bottle, and there was only one unopened one available. Score! Aside from loving all the wines - especially the '94 chard - we felt it was a wonderful value to have a vintage wine included, and we felt really treated by that.
The building and grounds are stunning, rustic yet chic. Exactly what I imagined Napa being like before arriving! You somehow feel simultaneously that you're sitting in a fancy mansion, yet also that you're cozying up at a good friend's home. The feeling is so laid back and comfortable, a great setting to learn about the winery.
Highly recommend visiting here! Ask for Kate! Make an afternoon of it and visit Laird Family, literally across the road. It's another smaller winery well worth your time. We will be back, Trefethen! In the meantime, we just received our 1994 bottle at home and are looking forward to a special occasion to...
Read moreMy family and I came here as part of my 21st birthday celebration. Hands down one of the BEST parts of our trip!!! Michael was the MOST incredible tour guide and really made our experience so special. It was intimate, catering to what we wanted to learn more about, and genuinely just so enjoyable and fun. Michael had thoughtful, impressive, and sometimes hilarious answers for every question we could think of and we were especially amazed by the section of our tour where he explained to us how the vines grow from cane to fruit and back around again. He was such a wealth of knowledge, and had apparent passion for what he does--we were learning about things we didn't even know there was to be learned! The entire tour was incredibly interesting, unique, and fun. We could have spent all day hanging out with Michael as he drove us through the vineyards, pulled out his tool kit to show us how the vines are grown (which we were particularly interested in!), gave us wine to taste in the mustard field, walked us through their facilities explaining how the wine is then made, and chatted with us further in the beautiful tasting room as we sipped on incredible tasting wines!!
Trefethen's vineyards and overall property is beautiful and the people there were all wonderful. We have nothing but amazing things to say about Trefethen, Michael, and the wines we tasted. 100/10 experience and we would love to come back...
Read moreI was recommended Trefethen Family Vineyards by a friend of mine while I was planning my 25th birthday trip to Napa. It was my family and my first time ever visiting Napa, and visiting Trefethen became our family's unanimously agreed-upon favorite part of the trip.
As part of our tasting, we received a tour of the vineyard and winery from Michael, who knew quite literally every detail about the winemaking process. Someone on our tour even asked what parts of the vine you plant to grow the grapes, and Michael physically demonstrated the process to us. I learned so much, and it was the perfect background to the wine tasting held in the historic house overlooking the property.
The wine tasting was executed so thoughtfully, and Michael had special tributes for both my birthday and the honeymoon another couple was celebrating. It's worth noting that while I did put in every reservation I made for our Napa trip that it was my birthday, only Trefethen actively acknowledged it without reminder, and curated an experience worthy of the celebration. Also, the wine was fantastic (even my sister, who prior to the trip said she did not like wine, emptied all her glasses).
If you're planning a trip, make sure you add them to the itinerary. I'm looking forward to going back soon as part of...
