2025 update: The Red Brick store is no longer a store operated by the Community of Christ Church. Tours are now free. It is now a historic property to learn about the colonization of Nauvoo and the role of this store in the industry and religious conversion in the area in the mid 1800's. The original Red Brick Store was torn down and bricks were repurposed. This property was rebuilt by the Community of Christ in 1979 and originally opened in 1980. It is full of rich history. The tours led by missionaries offer a glimpse into that history. We were led through the specific tour beginning at the Joseph Smith homestead, then the Mansion House, and on to the Red Brick store. No bathrooms are available in the sites, but there are bathrooms across the street and over from the Red Brick Store. You might need to wait to go upstairs as tours are being given to many groups which rotate through each space to learn how the spaces were used.

2022: Historic storefront with very friendly workers. Can look around and purchase fun souvenirs. The root beer is cold and refreshing! Go here to buy tickets to tour the Community of...

A great historic landmark to visit to learn more about early pioneers. There is a tour you can take to learn more about the history and buildings around here. I leaned a lot! Friendly tour guides and employees. The main floor is a store with souvenirs and candy. We got yummy cold rootbeer 2 different days.

Many historic decisions and events relating to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints occurred in the rooms upstairs which was my favorite part.

I took off a star because we came back from a tour and the building was closed. We were supposed to finish the tour in the upstairs rooms but we don't know why they closed before we got back.

It seems to already be crowded whenever we stopped by, probably due to it's size and it's popularity. It sells root beer that tastes good on a hot day, but nothing unique about the actual soda. They sell the tin lanterns you see on display at the tub shop, and they are cheaper at this location than at the stores on main street in Nauvoo. They also sell books, pioneer toys, old fashion candy, pioneer china, etc.

This also is where you go to buy tickets to the Mansion house of Joseph Smith, and all other property owned by the Community of Christ. Come by early, we stopped by at 10:30 to get tickets, and the soonest tour available was 3:30. The last tour of...

In August 2025, we visited the Red Brick Store in Nauvoo, Illinois. The Red Brick Store is part of the LDS Church's Nauvoo Historical Sites, and there is no admission charge to enter any of these sites. The first floor of the Red Brick Store is a mercantile store. In the second floor, (1) the Relief Society was founded, (2) part of the Temple Endowment was restored, and (3) the Priesthood keys were given to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It is interesting to learn about these historical places and events. The Nauvoo Historic Sites are amazing to see and experience.
