This is an old casino/hotel and is typical for a Nevada border town. I went to check in and the room was not ready. I went through the whole check in process and the Lady who checked me in confirmed my phone number and said she would call me when the room was ready. An hour went by and now it is after 5pm local time. I went back to the front desk and the same lady was playing with something behind the counter, I think it was her phone. I asked is my room ready, yet? She said Oh, yes it is. She never did call me, so I give room check in an F score. Went to the Desert Room and ordered a sandwich to go. I paid for the sandwich and the lady at the register said it would be 15 to 20 minutes, and she would call me over the intercom system. After a half hour and still no call I went back to the restaurant and my sandwich was sitting next to the register this whole time. She never did call me. I give the desert room receptionist an F in customer service. I give the sandwich a B and the price for the sandwich a D. Gaming. Lots and lots of penny, nickel, dime and quarter, penny type slot machines. Good if you are 80 years old and like the noise and colorful pictures to keep you from dozing off. Very few poker type machines and a lot of old, old machines. All the new ones catered to the 80 plus crowd. Several machines had sticky buttons and one was so bad we had to call the rude slot attendant over to unstick the buttons so we could cash out our ticket. I said none of the buttons work on these two machines. He looked at me, shrugged his shoulders and walked away. The Casino choice of machines for people who want to gamble I give a D score. Machines for the 80-year-old plus crowd I give a B+. The casino Cocktail waitresses I give an A score. Slot machine attendant help I give an F score. The Hotel Room, I give a B as it was clean, kind of modern and not bad if you like your room and bathroom to be in the dark. The room must of have had no more that 5-amp light bulbs in the room as it was that dark. The door to the room stuck and you had to pull it shut. The elevator gowned and creaked. You were praying it would not breakdown and that the door would actually open so you could get out. Room Checkout. The man behind the desk was very nice and checked us out quickly. I give the check-out process an A. My scores are FFBDDB+FA. Would I go back myself no. Would my wife go back yes. So, there you have it. All of the F scores were employee related. If your employees were friendly and did what they were paid to do the scores might have been much better. I think the hotel knows what it needs to do with employee training if...
Read morePositives: We enjoyed the gaming area. The machines all seemed to be in great working order, and the staff was friendly. The restrooms in the gaming area were clean and nicely updated. We appreciated being able to get complimentary fountain soda and cold water from the machines in the gaming area, and the cocktails from the waitresses were great. Negatives: Ugh. Here we go. Check-in doesnt necessarily happen at 4:00, as was indicated at booking. We were told it could be 6:00 before our rooms were ready, so we had to leave some of our bags at the desk amd tske the others back to our car until our rooms were available. The elevator to the Tower rooms was unreliable; the elevator call buttons didn't work so we had to take the stairs. We are middle-aged so it was more of an annoyance for us (one in our group has back trouble and it was an issue for her), but for an elderly person with luggage, that would be hazardous. What's really annoying is that there are other, older reviews complaining about the elevators, and the owners still haven't fixed the issue. That makes it seem like they just don't give a rat's behind. Our bedroom looked out onto a gravel roof, and the side of another building (photo shared). It made our room seem like a basement. There is a small fridge, but no microwave. The walls were very thin and the gals in the room adjacent to us were horribly loud and screechy late into the night and again not long after sunrise. You could literally hear every word of their conversation and hear the audio of the videos they were watching on social media. There was a non-smoking gaming area, but it wasn't well-ventilated or separated from the rest of the gaming floor, so the smoke lingered heavily there. The upside was that at least nobody would blow smoke in your face from the machine next to you. The restaurant selection was lame. There is a steakhouse with excellent beef, but the quality and presentation of the rest of the menu is lackluster. The only other place to eat was a cafe-type restaurant. The wait wasn't bad for breakfast, and the portions were generous. There was no buffet, despite there being an area designated for one, and nowhere to get a decent coffee.
Bottom line is, I don't think we would go back unless we knew there was more to entice us. There is a casino in Pandelton worth trying, and some further into Oregon and Washington. Although Cactus Pete's is closer, they aren't the only...
Read moreThis was my first time here and I don't think I'll be coming back. The room was nice and clean but everything else was not good. No microwave so if you don't want to pay for all your meals, bring cold stuff to eat as the room has a fridge. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and things were fine till the tv quit working. We waited a bit because it seemed it was everyone that lost their tv. Well everyone except the casino floors. That was mid evening on Saturday. We checked out on Monday morning and it still wasn't working. Twice we called down to see if it was going to be fixed and they said no update was available and no compensation was offered. Then we called down to ask if they loan out dvd players or something along those lines. Nope, they don't do that and again, no explanation or compensation was offered. We are not big gamblers and we did spend time away from our room but it would have been nice to relax with some tv instead of listening to all the noise from other guests. When you advertise a perk on your website as part of what the cost we pay includes; and that perk is in fact not given, then we're paying for something you didn't provide, which you advertised for. The staff were not polite when we asked about the tv and were short and dismissive with us. There's also no signs posted about rules or protocol about smoking at the tables while playing. You can smoke cigarettes but not tobacco pipes and cigars. They snapped at my fiance when he sat at a black jack table with his tobacco pipe. She also asked him if he had a mask which he clearly did because it was a big black one hanging from his ear. Apparently the rule is you have to have a mask on but if you're smoking or drinking it needs to be put around your chin not hanging from your ear. These are the rules as to which I spoke of that are not posted anywhere so mind yourselves when approaching the tables so you don't get your head bit off. Another player even approached my fiance afterwards and they had a laugh over how overboard the employee went with her snapping the way she did....
