I gave 4 stars because I love mining, my review is regarding a tour guide Russel . My family and I was on vacation and we passed through tonapah decided to stop and take a tour of the mine. Paid for a guided tour and we got lucky enough to get Russel as our guide, me my wife our son and daughter in law. We had no idea what Russel had planned or had in mind but soon enough we found out. Russel allowed his ego to push himself above and beyond with his flirtation with my wife constantly reaching his hand out trying to get my wife to hold his hand, my son and daughter in law pulled me aside and said maybe we need to say something to him because he doesn’t even notice there’s four of us he’s just focusing on mom my wife. After continuously flirting and reaching for my wife’s hand my wife stayed hid behind me because he made her feel uncomfortable to the point that she didn’t want to be there. The final straw was when Russel said to my wife you can slide up front here and sit in the middle next to me if you want. My wife instantly responded no. It took everything I had every once of restraint a person could possibly have to not completely go off on Russel . Finally after all the refusal from my wife to all of Russel’s flirting his ego took over and cut the tour short. We paid for a full tour not a tour of shame of how a tour guide can try to make moves on a married woman in front of her husband and son and daughter in law. We would love to go back and get the full tour but most importantly not by Russel. Just to add my wife was extremely embarrassed that Russel would even be doing that to her. We give Russel zero stars very disrespectful for a man to do that to a woman in front of her family. Shame on...
Read moreThis is a must-see location if you are staying a few days in Tonopah and enjoy learning about the mining history of Tonopah. This historical location consists of a museum and numerous buildings and mining equipment used during the heyday of this mine. The museum is not very large, but it is full of unique items related to mining as well as numerous photographs from the past. There is plenty of parking in front of the museum and it is also where you park if you have signed up for a tour. The staff here is simply the best, extremely knowledgeable and really a lot of fun to talk to about mining back in the early days of the 1900s. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Jeff Marin and Grace Gearhart who made our visit the very best. Grace was our tour guide today and she was so much fun, and you can tell quite quickly that she loves her job and knows what she is talking about. Since there were no other people at the museum or on the tour, we were able to have Grace for close to four hours of touring the mine park. When we returned to the museum, Jeff was much than willing to address any additional questions we had concerning the park. We tried to include as many photos as possible, so people can see for themselves how wonderful this place is and why it is worth the visit. The museum also offers a military discount, and the tour is absolutely worth the price, which is more than reasonable, if downright a bargain for such a place. Finally, we spent all morning or approximately 5-6 hours here and that is still not enough to learn and see all that is here, we will...
Read moreSo much fun! ( especially for people interested in the history of US mining). The living stopes, frames, and tunnels here are a wonderful exhibit, with the scientific progression from shoving logs in gaps to square set timbers, as well as the different head frames used. This exhibit/museum/historical park has well-displayed silver stone mines with single frames on top, as well as a super-complicated steel head frame with a gigantic set of pumps and engines for mass production. Very much worth the price of admission. Almost nothing at this park has been staged, it is all real equipment left at almost functional capacity for people to visit, and I appreciate that very much. There is some walking around to do, but the attendant on site is very knowledgeable of the grounds and can guide you well. I look forward to going back and getting the guided tour. The main museum/visitor center was a bit unfinished, but the 20 minute documentary movie was great, and the artifacts in the museum are legitimate, if not flashy. Walk the grounds, and be amazed at the frightening ingenuity of early...
