we waited about 5 minutes for a hostess/waitress to come out and seat us (about 5:30 - they open at 5); there was one couple at the end of the bar (friday night) - she seated us at the end of the wall next to the entrance - the vinyl seat covering was ripped, with a huge gap - and cut into my leg (i was wearing shorts) - we moved over to the seating next to us and told her why when she brought over a carafe of water - "no problem" she said... she then disappeared - we could hear her and other employees laughing and talking in the back room - didn't see her again so after about 15 minutes we got up and left - other than the couple at the bar we were the only customers in the restaurant - a real shame - based on the reviews (were they authentic?) we were expecting a very nice meal - especially for the price they charge - and, oh yeah - their menu posted on their website really needs to be updated - we were looking forward to the tomahawk steak posted on the website but not listed on their actual menu.. wow - guess what? we...
Read moreI'm a longstanding, loyal patron of the excellent Mizpah Hotel, including its two restaurants—the regular one (Pittman Cafe) and the fancy one (The Jack Dempsey Room). My experience with Pittman Cafe has been great, over many years of patronage. My experience tonight in the Jack Dempsey Room was not great. The food was bad; the service was bad. Somebody did approach my table, with a smile and a plate. The plate had a small bread roll and a pat of butter. You know, like you would usually get before you get the entree. He was like "Tah-dah!"—but just . . . late. I hope Mizpah management will take my comments in the spirit intended, I'm a huge...
Read moreA very nice steak house located inside the Mizpah Hotel. There are approximately ten tables inside this relatively small restaurant and there is a small bar located at the front, when you enter the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, with an atmosphere which takes you back in time to the boom days of the miners. With magnificent wood paneling, stamped tin ceiling and the overall ambiance of days gone-by, this elegant restaurant makes for a perfect place to enjoy a spectacular meal. The prices are reasonable but are higher than most of the other restaurants in town. As for us, we loved the New York Strip and Filet Mignon steaks, and the service was very professional and responsive. Please note that the menu is extremely limited so you might wish to review prior to making reservations, which we would...
