From a historical viewpoint, I enjoyed reading the information âšī¸ on the historical marker. Important history from the American Revolution happened here. It was even an important site during WW1. Due to sand being used in the construction đ§ of the fort, it has become unsafe to tour. I hope đ¤ the government of NH will try to preserve this site. I toured it over a decade ago and it didn't take long to explore. It was closed during Covid and is being used for storage. Such a shame! Parking đ ŋī¸ area available. There is a park đī¸ right next to it. Coast Guard base as well. I spoke to a State Park employee about Fort Constitution being closed đ to the public. Governor Sununu wants the Fort open, but, there is no facility from which the employees can work out of. There isn't even a porta potty to use! There are employees who are willing to work there, but, they have no where to escape the weather âī¸. Also, the Coast Guard can shut down any tours at any moment. The man who has to mow the lawn at the Fort has to call first for permission from the Coast Guard to perform maintenance...
Read moreFort constitution is a very nice park but it is owned by the Coast guard who restrict its accessibility. The 1808 fort has been closed because it have been recently deemed unsafe. And Battery Farnsworth at the main entrance has been closed up for some time. Many original fort buildings were recently demolished for expansion of Coast guard Facilities including a storage house this year from the early 1900s. Currently there are Lighthouse tours running where they take you to the top which cannot be done in many lighthouses today. They have an original Fresnel lens which is very cool. Highly recommend going during the open season and when the 1808...
Read moreLove the site as the takeover there was the catalyst to the first shots of the America Revolution (plus my ancestors were part of it). However, to go in person to see it now you will be trespassing-like we did. The Coast Guard guy was supper nice and explained that it is closed a now except for political tours as it is not structurally sound and a liability issue. As nice as he was, we did get a courtesy walk to the exit fence. Perhaps, renting a boat is an option to view it and the light house...
