Ocean Beach Park — Attraction in New London

First of all the beach and atmosphere is beautiful only problem I ran too was the bar on second floor balcony. I went to check on my friend as to why he was taking too long he said everybody was cutting and talking that he had been waiting and frustrated, he asked me can you get in a line to see if we get close. So I got close I have this African American guy attacking me as to go to the other line very nasty attitude while attending another customer while I’m next on line right, I ask him why would I if I’m next in your line sir he says he will serve you I said look my friend he’s already there and he hasn’t been served it’s been over 30 mins I’m going to stay here since I’m next so he started arguing with me which I didn’t understand I told im not arguing with you sir but he continues. I’m confused it was like TWILIGHT ZONE movie wondering what the heck he’s on. So in despite of him serving me next he skipped me and asked the gentleman behind me for his drink and he did that on malicious ,oh man that really got me upset I was not going to no longer stay in his line because obviously he was still arguing with me and I don’t know this man at all I was there just to get a drink and get out. Maybe he thought he had an experience with me and confused me with someone else I’m thinking because why he would do such a thing right I’m very polite and respectful person until you disrespect me then we have a problem. So I asked to speak to the manager LAURA she was worst bartender manager! The bartender knew I was complaining about him and that’s it she didn’t even listen to me as to what had happened I told her ok you useless too instead telling the bartender to go back to work and she will take care of it now I have these two animals screaming and yelling at me as when I’m walking out the door to avoid such an embarrassing scene I couldn’t help it but to tell both of them to shutt the hell up because with both screaming and making such an embarrassing scene I was so shocked how they behave. Then I told myself I shouldn’t have went to LAURA the manager because I remember she screaming at her employee in front of people that day too. Such an unprofessional behavior she should not be NO manager behaving in that manner please she needs to be retrained . A manager should first be able to speak to an a employee in private and not scream at her in front of customers and a manager should know her position and tell the bartender that to continue to serve his customer , that she will descalate the situation he has with a customer and NOT make it worst! So as we driving back home my daughter and grandson started thinking as to why these two peoples would act so unprofessional and they came to a conclusion that just maybe they were under the influence of alcohol too that’s why both of them was not in the right state of mind and their behavior did not let them think of my situation , and that’s just an assumption. Please tell me these people don’t drink while working because if they do they wouldn’t know how to handle ANY situation and makes it worse for your facility. The waitress was so apologetic about them two seriously she was shocked as we were. Unfortunately I will no longer visit that area because the embarrassment I went thru and the experience that still hunts me. I generously tipped the waitress after the fact we finished eating they are so well professional if I knew I would kept dealing with the outside waitress! That was my experience inside that building so disappointed especially the manager (LAURA) that she could of avoided the whole situation! Please more training is needed that’s all I got to say and yes I’m a review person so you never know who’s visiting you! I came here to voice my opinion and the experience I encountered without malice either. Be on your best behavior people because you are still being watch even if the owner of the company is not there but these...

Simply put, the worst part about this beach are the people who go here.

Beach parking is $25 on weekdays & $30 on the weekend. You cannot leave and come back, you have to pay again. They STILL charge for parking after 6pm!

The beach area is nice. The sand is soft white, and very fine. The beach area itself is very wide, with plenty of room to set up from the boardwalk all the way to the edge of the water. NOTE: they do not allow beach umbrellas to be set up in the areas from where the lifeguards sit to the water line. They will make you move your umbrellas to any area behind where the lifeguards sit. It would be helpful if this policy was written anywhere, or if there was a sign placed. It's annoying to set up, only to have a lifeguard make you move and re-set up. It happened to multiple people throughout the day, and every one of them annoyed.

There are buoys set up in the water, 20-30 feet from the shore, and the lifeguards are constantly whistling when swimmers go past them. Very annoying, especially considering they're absolutely not far out.

There is a Kiddie Play area where you can buy tokens to ride small carnival rides. It's $10 for an unlimited ride wristband on MONDAYS.

There is a waterslide area with 4 waterslides, $4 per slide or $14 for an unlimited slide wristband ($10 on Wednesday)

There is a large Olympic sized swimming pool, $10 to enter. You can come and go all day with the wristband on.

There is a FREE small splash park next to the pool, as well as a playground next to that.

You can buy hot food and drink on the small boardwalk. Beware, a fried dough costa $15!

Ocean Beach Park has lots to offer other than just a beach. My kids loved going to the pool, and spent more time there than they did in the ocean, and they wanted to come back. The PROBLEM with Ocean Beach Park is the people who go here. Almost every other group of people have loud music playing, we tried to set up away from people with speakers, but, they're everywhere, and seem to be more frequent here than other beaches. As others have said, the pot smoking was a constant throughout the day. You could smell it coming from different directions throughout the entire beach. At one point I had to leave the ocean water because a family was spitting out mouthfuls of watermelon and it was just everywhere floating in the water.

All in all, I would rather explore other beaches in the area before returning here. Misquamicut isn't that much...

Okay you want me to tell others about my experience well for one thing I am very annoyed to the point of annoyance is to the point of anger okay well first of all I just want to say that everybody out there who's listening and reading I just want you to know that ocean beach is just okay The reason why I am annoyed is because I was down there yesterday The beach has not even opened up yet and the guy's telling people that you have to pay $10 to get in and it's not even memorial Day weekend Christ Almighty Ocean Beach What the hell are you thinking You guys need to fix up the entire beach there's nothing to do down there at the beach just to put your towel down and watch the water and catch some rays and that's it It's a very boring and dull beach there's nothing to entice the atmosphere at Ocean Beach But anyway I was told that in order to park that you have to pay $10 and I was like no thank you Not paying $10 for 10 minutes or 15 minutes or what have you So for those of you who are reading this Ocean Beach sucks It's still okay b** I'd read it from 1 to 10 my rating would be a two You guys need to fix up that golf course cut down that tree and bring everything up to code Make everything look better because that many golf it looks terrible You guys haven't done any fixtures or that didn't work on that mini golf since the decade of error shame on you Ocean Beach for charging people before memorial Day weekend That's terrible and $10 to get in the door No way man I don't think so and you can't even go through the walkway because that's closed so people who want to just go down there and walk around just for the heck of walking around can't even do that because there's no parking There should be free parking at Ocean Beach For one thing Ocean Beach I want to know one thing and one thing only Ocean Beach What are you people doing with thousands and thousands of dollars that people are coming into the beach What are you guys doing with all that money Are you doing anything with that money What's the money going to I want to know what the money is going to It's basically not taxes because that's...
