Exploring local Maryland wineries during March wine month we discovered New Market Plains. Our GPS stopped us just short of the driveway, if yours does the same keep driving on the road and within a hundred feet or so you'll begin to see signs reading NMP and then a gate and what looks like a private driveway.
After we parked we were greeted by Bert, a border collie who walked us to the tasting room and Gretchen. She provided a wealth of info on the farm, grapes and wine. Howard, one of the owners stopped while we were sampling and offered us a tour.
The wines were great - we brought a couple home. But even better was the low key, down home atmosphere of Gretchen, Howard and NMP.

Read moreWe really enjoyed our visit to New Market Plains Vineyard. Beautiful, quaint surroundings, the vineyard is located on an historic property, and has been in the same family since the 1700's. The wines are very good, and will improve over time, no doubt. The wine tasting was definitely worth the 10.00 to sample seven wines. There is a lovely familiarity and warmth to their very personal touch, maybe because they are still a young, small business. I could only tolerate drinking 2 of the wines and even those I would never buy a glass. Coming from some other wineries nearby there’s such a drastic difference in quality.
