The museum is a treasure of nautical history and of City Island's place in that history. SO many neat stories; the two docents working at the time are long term residents and know a lot of the history. Lots of ship models as well as many artifacts from sailmakers, rigging, a nice compass collection, navigation, tools, engines, communications, scuba, art and photography. An hour well spent and I could have spent more time there honestly!

Very cute place. Our tour guide Cheryl was so lovely! We enjoyed our time exploring this museum and former schoolhouse. As a resident of the Bronx it was a pleasure to see the rich history of this lovely island we've visited so many times.

Great exhibits, friendly staff. Best 5 bucks I have spent in a long time.

I am planning a visit with my Non-Verbal grandson who has autism. I want to experience the trip for myself & see my grandson's reaction before reading rhe reviews because I believe that everyone's experience & reaction depends on the subject matter and your interest in nautical life. I enjoy saving, riding the ferries and excursion that involve water activity such as the Ferry Turs that other Boroughs have to offer. I will keep Google updated...

A small but dedicated staff keeps the history of City Island alive in this convert public school. Interesting collection of photos and artifacts from the sailing industry plus full archives on many different topics... famous residents, the island's role in WWII and even the ill-fated monorail that once rode...
