Did you know that there is a Lavender Field in NYC? And it is completely FREE! Stop and smell the flowers this weekend during the NYC Lavender Festival! The festival is located on Governors Island and offers 2 days of tours, maker workshops, harvesting opportunities, demonstrations, and fun family activities. The Lavender Field is a healing space for community, bees and the earth, and the only lavender field in all five boroughs. Walking through the fields is free! Harvesting opportunities are available, where you can harvest your own bouquet of fresh lavender flowers directly from the field. Don’t miss this chance to dive into the heady fragrance of lavender, see the field in bloom, pick your own bouquet, and take advantage of photo opportunities. The field is small but stunning, and smells amazing! WHERE: 📍South Battery Lavender Field, Governors Island (near to Yankee Pier) WHEN: ⏰Saturday June 10 and Sunday June 11. 11-5pm PRICE: 🎟️Free to walk the fields! Lavender harvesting and workshops have a fee ($12 for harvesting - book slot online.)
FOR KIDS: 🎈Lavender harvesting is suitable for ages 12 and up, due to the sharp tools. Younger children may accompany caregivers into the field, but cannot use these tools. WHERE TO NEXT: 🧭Make a day of it! Rent bikes at Blazing Saddles, swing on over to Hammock Grove, slip down Slide Hill, and play away at the popular “Junkyard” playground, which is just steps away. This lavender festival was in our weekly FREE weekly newsletter. A 'Lavender Patch' in New York City! Less than 10 mins from Wall Street NYC Ferry Terminal, it'd transport one to another world! 'Lavender dreams, where happiness blooms.' A great place to spend 45-60 mins ...don't forget to speak to Hollis, the person who run this 'field', not only she is very knowledgeable of all the lavenders but fun and friendly! Get yourself a bunch of our very own NYC's Governor's fresh lavender!

It's a cute little patch not really a big field. I was there during the "Lavender Festival" and, unfortunately, it was underwhelming. There weren't many lavender themed goods for sale nor educational programs. The volunteers seemed to be very busy picking the lavender but there weren't any bunches being sold. This Field is fun to stumble upon but I wouldn't make it the center of a Governors Island visit.

We had a great time here volunteering with Earth Matter this morning. Their staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming and taught us how to harvest and bundle the beautiful lavender that grows here. Very nice peaceful area in the center of Governors Island helping a great nonprofit organization. Thanks...
