Visited 03/29/2025, the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House Museum is an amazing little gem of a historic house museum, located near the Queens-Brooklyn county line, tucked around the far northwest corner of Ridgewood, off the beaten tourist path in NYC. It showcases a very interesting collection of artifacts that highlights the house’s and the neighbourhood’s fascinating history. It is run by a friendly and welcoming staff, and one of them is a gracious and very knowledgeable guide bedecked in period cosplay. It is a must-see for history buffs, historic preservation professionals and advocates, Ridgewood residents, and visitors to NYC seeking a quiet intimate “out-of-the-way” spot to relax and immerse oneself in solitude and some history and some Queens-centric tidbits. Within the spacious grounds, set in a picket-fenced enclosure, is the “Arbitration Rock,” an intriguing artifact marking a little known historic event that settled the limits of the Ridgewood (Queens) - Bushwick (Brooklyn) border.

A cool history about the bordering of Queens and Bushwick Brooklyn. Beautifully restored and nicely maintained.

The property itself is a gem in an otherwise industrial area. The staff and management are another story. We hosted a wedding at the property and would strongly discourage others from doing the same. The property manager made the day so much harder. She yelled at numerous guests, which is absolutely unacceptable. There were several instances where we were given false or incomplete information, which ended up costing us lots of extra time, money and stress at the last minute.

This place should become a city park or be taken over by new management. The potential is...

Would buy advanced tickets for special events they hold. One of the oldest structures in nyc and has a fair amount of historical items to see. Small gift shop with your standard impulse items that you like when you buy it but later on you think why did i buy it. The original rock that delineated the border between bklyn and queens was cool to see. You could spend about a hour there. Just a heads up it is in the middle of an industrial area would visit on weekend,...
