I had a same day procedure yesterday that required me to be held overnight due to some surgical complications. Overall, I had a wonderful experience with only two complaints that need identified.
Firstly, during the intake process I was asked to pay my full deductible prior to service. While I understand that the hospital and doctors need paid, I just donât expect to pay my full deductible prior to service when i have already established claims against that deductible from other providers prior to this visit. Furthermore, I pay from a flexible spending account and need to submit an EOB with receipt of payment to validate my expenditure. While this is a relatively new approach to me for medical payment, and appears to be a bit aggressive, I do realize that lot of patients skip out in payment so I understand their need to collect payment whenever possible. Needless to say, I declined and asked to be billed. Also, during intake I was asked to sign my name on a signature capture device but was not afforded any written explanation of what I was signing my name to. The intake staff informed me that the monitor was not working. I felt this was unacceptable as all patients should be afforded visual evidence of the forms to which they are signing their names to. Therefore, I asked them to print out the forms and manually signed all to ensure I was fully informed of what was being communicated.
The surgical staff was great. As I already have a solid relationship with my surgeon (Dr Mammis) and his team I donât need to reiterate how wonderful his team is as this review is purely about Newark Beth Israel Hospital staff.
After surgery I was placed in the Post Op area and was treated by 2 nurses. Stacie and Dino. Overall, Stacie was rude and disrespectful. Spent most of her time looking at her phone and spoke condescending to both myself and my wife. Stacie even repeatedly mispronounced my name in a vulgar manner on three ocassions and didnât correct herself after being told the correct pronunciation each time. She purposely chose to be offensive. However, Dino was an excellent caregiver and provided me with the utmost courtesy and professionalism! Dino was constantly working on getting everything I needed for transfer to radiology for a CT scan and then ultimately to my room upstairs. I cannot emphasize how far Dino went to ensure that my stay was as pleasurable as possible. A true professional who really enjoys his work and insures all patients under his care are treated with dignity and respect!
After I made it to my room I was under the care of a nurse by the name of Holly (4th floor Section B). Holly was wonderful and a pleasure to interact with. While my time was brief on this floor, Holly made sure that I was given everything I needed to be as comfortable as possible. She also took the time to explain everything regarding my case to the day shift nurse although i was discharged shortly thereafter. Holly also treated me with dignity and respect, another true professional!
In closing, I have been hospitalized a few times over the past year and have experienced several interactions with medical care staff, mostly nurses, who do not put forth caring principals into their body of work. I can honestly say that both Dino and Holly made a painful event much more tolerable by being passionate, sympathetic and understanding of my condition and the care thatâs needed. It really makes a difference knowing that quality staff are looking over you while you are in a time of great need. Because of this experience, I can look past the negative experience of one individual and feel that Newark Beth Israel Hospital is a highly recommended hospital...
Read moreZero review do not apply to the entire Ger staff. My mom was transported to Beth Israel hospital on July 20th 2025. Before I arrived they did the basic exam except being told my mom can't walk. No one asked or search to communicate how long or what happened, and why she's not walking. It's 3a.m. in the morning. I was advised that nurse was taking blood. As I proceed towards Ger. I asked nurse Michelle was she able to draw blood And I quote I am the only person back here, I have to do this and do that, my response was calm down I'm only asking you a question. If her soul was not in her duties she should really search employment elsewhere. She continues to complain how everything and everybody was getting on her nerves. Next doc came in to draw blood. About ten tubes, about 6 tubes they never used, from 4a.m. to 4p.m. tubes of blood still sitting on the table. My mom was never check to see if she were dehydrated, staff including doctors no IV no nothing. But you're waiting for fluids. So, for over 12 hours my mom past no fluids. And for 12 hours no one give her b/ p meds until her BP went from 99 to 199 . I understand in the beginning pressure was low, but Once the blood pressure hit a certain point, what was the problem. Whatever the staff name dressed in green scrubs, sitting at the front desk. I asked her twice for food for my mom, and twice she never came back, and twice my mom did not eat anything until I gave her a banana. Thank you Lolo for everything. Amazing đ job you did.staff wearing the green scrubs had no answers for anything. Doing discharge I advised her again, my mom cannot walk , we need help getting her out of the bed into the wheel chair, answer I have to see was her answer.again she never check. Everything I needed to say might not fit on this review, but I will make sure I file a complaint with the hospital regarding the above matter. About six tubes of blood was left behind, so what happened to that, are you guys using it for the blood bank ? Because of my mom's age, did that give you guys the power to do the things you did? Absolutely not.shift that came on after 4a.m. thank you guys (nurses only) for your assistance. I pray and pray đ to God that my mom never have to go back to Beth Israel again.if it had not been an emergency and my mom unable to walk, we would have taken her back to overlook, in union and they would have transported her to overlook in summit. I'm waiting for administrator office at Beth Israel to open , so that I may file a complaint. People know and learn your rights. Before I end this review I point out to staff ( green scrubs) my mom's blood pressure reading and how high it was. Her answer she had no idea I should talk to her cardiologist. Well, she had, no food, no fluids , and no meds until her b/p reached 199 , instead of waiting for her b/ p to go down they gave her one pill instead of her two pills and discharged my mom. What a SIN. Security showed more concern, and that's sad. Today's new day I made contact with staff member in the administration office, on stand by waiting to see what...
Read moreThis is by far the worst hospital facilty Iâve ever experienced. Itâs a shame to witness so many people who need help from the nurses, and receive little of it. My grandmother has been in and out of the hospital for the past two years now. Everyday my grandmother tells the kitchen staff and nutritionist what she wanted for breakfast and have received her food cold, undercooked or have been served an empty plate many times. By the time I got a hold of the kitchen manager, breakfast time was over and they refused to make her food over again or at all. The kitchen staff would get calls from us everyday about correcting her food. Everytime they would make it over, the food would still be wrong so she just gave up and remained hungry till lunch time. Her lunch and dinner are bland and as a dialysis patient they serve her dark green vegetables when itâs written down that sheâs watching her potassium intake. My grandmother has to sit in pain for almost an hour after letting her nurse and doctor know that her pain level is at a 9. My grandmother doesnât ask for hardly anything but a little help just to use the bathroom but she has to wait 30-45 minutes to recieve assistance. The nurses and doctors constantly come in to talk to my grandmother at 2 and 4 oâclock in the morning when thatâs the only time she can rest. My grandmother doesnât get any rest and sheâs constantly being poked with needles all day. The staff doesnât give her body time to heal and produce more erythrocytes before they drain her of more blood. One doctor stopped to wake my grandmother up to give her an update when she was finally asleep. The doctor saw me and left out because I told him she has only receiving two hours of sleep and need her rest for dialysis tomorrow so he left. Some nurses are very rude to the patients and show very little professionalism. Patients and visitors can hear the nurses gossiping loudly about patients getting on their nerves. Patients are thrown to the side of the hallways and sometimes placed in front of the front desk just to put them somewhere. One patient expressed how uncomfortable he was to my grandmother and I because he didnât have a room to his self and he was in a gown all exposed in the open. Nurses and a few Cnas would be very vague and short with the patients if they ask too many questions as well. As my grandmother waited to get admitted she had to be packed away on a bed next to loud abnoxious patients keeping her from sleeping. The patients waiting to be admitted basically share one room with thin curtains separating everyone. Open needle caps and dried BLOOD spots was on the floor around my grandmothers bed! I would rather see this place shut down or improved greatly than having my grandmother or any other person confined to an unsanitary...
