Extra Supermarket — Local services in Newark

If ZERO stars was a rating, then this'd be it. This store does not care about its customer experience; the owners seem to care more about its bottom line, which is probably dwindling because of their greedy, money-grubbing practices.

Firstly, I tried to return a container of juice that tasted foul to both me and my daughter, but the money Grubbs wouldn't give us our money back because it had been opened - but only a few putrid ounces were thrown down the drain, plus, the date showed that it hadn't expired. I wish I had poured out that nasty-tasting juice unto their trash so theyD have to smell it the whole day.

Secondly, I had been frequenting this store for months eyeing the hardwood lump charcoal. I finally decide to buy @$13.99, but when the cashier rings it up, I'm being charged $16.99. The so-called manager brings back the price label (from the bottom shelf, half of which is obscured by the bags of charcoal) and tells me that the lower price was for Royal Oak, not the Cowboy brand that has ALWAYS been stocked there. I asked her how long she'd been working there because I'd been coming there for over 6 months, and there was NEVER the cheaper brand stocked. You'd think they'd honor the lower price as a courtesy? Nope. She kept repeating herself, as did i, to the point where I told her I didn't want it, and she lugged that big bag away. They'd rather lose a $14 sale over a $3 "mis"labeling "error" (bait and switch, if you ask me) - unbelievable!

Thirdly, I recently returned (all unopened) product for a refund, and a different so-called manager came up to me and said that they no longer give cash refunds, only store credit. So, they took my money, but don't want to give it back! I looked around the front of the store for any notices to customers about any of their unfriendly customer policies, and found absolutely NOTHING.

Bonus: this money-grubbing supermarket doesn't even grant it's customers the courtesy of Cashback privileges! Their ATM was broken for weeks, but, hey, who wants to pay fees to get their own money when they're in their "friendly-neighborhood" grocery store, hmmm?

The name "Extra" has GOT to mean EXTRA unfair, EXTRA unkind, and EXTRA discourteous to its customers. There is absolutely nothing extra-anything about this store, except extra annoying, and extra aggravating. Shame on the tightwad owners....

Today, Friday August 29, 2025. The black lady cashier, ( probably African) you have currently working afternoon shift need to be replaced, she walking in the aisle listening to people conversation and giving them and showing them some nasty attitude. She was passing back and forth, to show me that she did not care . Cause I saw what she did. She was again at the check out acting so unprofessionaly,when I realize that the price on the shelves is different than the price at the cashier. She was trying to escalate things, making me lose my calm , just because I asked a question . So , unprofessional, arrogant , disrespectful, from the BEGINNING TO END! This place .... Yes! This place ..... Couple weeks ago it was the tall security with glasses that was trying to assault me , because I said something he didn't like. I had to stop coming there for months, now the FEMALE BLACK CASHIER ARROGANT CASHIER , was trying to make me ... . The latino are doing there job I never faced any disrespect from them. There is something incredibly shady going on here because I received a package with my full name and full address with 5 small round black things with what at first, looked like 5 tiny razor blades on the other side. Upon further investigation, it appears they are not sharp but flimsy and bendable. I live nowhere near New Jersey, USA. This is not only suspicious but creepy as Heck. I feel very apprehensive about receiving this package. I really don't know why it was even sent to me as I haven't ordered anything from anywhere in a long time. I definitely think this was part of a scam and that there could be some sort of bug with a hidden camera or audio receiver in it somehow. Just, please stop sending me things I never ordered.
