As a 50 year old woman who has lived on one side of Lake Sunapee or the other for the last 47 years of my life, I'll happily admit to being biased. But I do try to remain objective & if I were not from the area & wanted to know more about things to do & see here, Mt. Sunapee would likely be on my radar. So let me explain that this is a lakeside mountain that has grown from a local ski area to a favorite family resort for people from all over. In the winter, all your typical winter mountain sports are available. I started my alpine skiing lessons here when I was 6 years old. Nowadays, they offer high-speed chairlifts, gondolas, snowboarding park, "bunny" slopes, racing, everything from easiest to black diamond level. There are 3 lodges for respite, food, drink, restrooms, etc. In the summer months, the mountain transforms into an adventure park (Zipline, challenge course, mini golf, frisbee golf & things I can't even remember), along with several large-scale events like the Annual NH League of Craftsmen Fair, a stunning event showcasing the extraordinary talents of regional artists & artisans. You can hike, bike, climb, ride, dance, picnic, marry.... You name it! Mt. Sunapee is a resort mountain these days with all that you've come to expect from a "destination" getaway. Very family friendly & nestled in the heart of NH's Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region, with restaurants & activities throughout the area. I can't imagine not finding a way to have a...
Read moreMount Sunapee State Park is a public recreation area located in Newbury, New Hampshire. The Park Beach, also referred to as Newbury Beach, offers a variety of amenities, including a bathhouse, a store, canoe and kayak rentals, a playground, and a restricted boat launch. A seasonal campground is conveniently situated off New Hampshire Route 103, along Upper Winding Mountain Road, with access through Mount Sunapee Resort.
Visitors will find that the beach is typically well-maintained, and public restrooms are available in the bathhouse, where guests can shower and change during the swimming season. The small store offers snacks, drinks, and floatation devices for purchase. While I have not personally rented a kayak or canoe, these options are readily accessible. There is a service fee for park entry during peak hours, but entry is free after 6 o’clock. Additionally, parking is complimentary once the entrance fee is paid during peak hours and after hours.
The park features two separate parking lots, along with a modest playground suited for children up to age 12. There are also numerous picnic tables and BBQ grills available for use. It is possible to make reservations for specific areas of the park, making it an excellent location for gatherings such as family reunions. Overall, the park provides a delightful option for a summer outing in...
Read moreI was at Mount Sunapee Resort with my daughter on St Patty's Day 2018, end of the day General Manager was extremely rude while driving the Mount Sunapee shuttle bus, waving at me in a forward motion to move my truck while I was getting ready to back into the the beach area to load up our gear from the day as my 9 year old daughter waited. He would not pass by me so I got out of my truck to go to the bus to let him know my intentions, as I leaned in to say hello he grabbed my hand aggressively hard and wouln't let go as he gripped even harder, repeatedly telling me to move my truck at the same time pulling me toward him he closed the doors on me while other guests were on the bus observing and applied extreme pressure to the handle that closes the doors so that I couldn't move, both my feet were still on the ground as he started to drive off while I was pinned between the doors "I said JAY, what the hell are you doing??" It seemed like he drove for about 10' before he released me from the doors before I could get myself free....I didn't sleep well that night, I just kept going over it asking myself why anyone, never mind the General Manager would do that to a guest at a local ski resort. That incident makes me think twice about visiting again anytime soon, I feel...
