I live locally and have been several times over the past year or so since they've been operating as the Shanty. Each time has been worse than the last. Normally, I don't write reviews. Normally, I'm pretty understanding, but tonight's experience was so bad that I feel compelled to post this and warn others. The food was absolute bottom tier. Seriously, I've had better in a MRE in the Navy. The service was virtually non existent. The entire bar area reeked of old, nasty dishwater, but then suddenly it changed to old boiled cabbage after the ceiling fans kicked on. What was that all about? In any case, it was awful. It all came to head for me when, after spending over $60. for dinner, I stepped outside for about 15 minutes and then wasn't allowed back in due to not having an ID on my person. Really? I've been in your restaurant now for over 2 hours, the place was not that busy, and now I'm not allowed back in due to not having an ID? It was in my car and told the gentleman at the door as such. He thought it was funny and told me to go get it. This is the same guy who had seen me in the building earlier. At that point I left. I had had enough. My tab was paid, I don't need this level of grief to go back into a failing bar with a terrible band and spend money. I'm 43 years old with some hard miles on me. I don't physically look anywhere even close to 21. It wasn't a judgment call at all. It was a game, and after I just dropped a fair sum on dinner, I think that I could have been treated with a little more respect and courtesy. Sorry Tuohy brothers, you've lost a local patron permanently and I will not ever recommend this place to anyone I know and am posting this to warn others about how bad this place really is. In closing, I say this to anyone reading this: stay away. Go elsewhere....

Now, we’d heard tell of a fine Irish pub not far from where we were staying. And seeing as my husband’s half Irish himself, we figured it’d be a shame not to give it a go.
Now, truth be told, Irish food isn’t usually my cup of tea, but for the sake of harmony—I’d dragged him off to visit President Franklin Pierce’s Homestead earlier, after all—I thought, why not? So off we went, just a wee drive from the lake house.
We arrived at the pub around 2:40 in the afternoon, and it was still quiet, the kind of calm before the evening storm, I’d say. They handed us the menu, and some tunes filled the air. My husband’s eyes lit up; he knew the songs, but as for me, I hadn’t a clue who was singing.
I settled on a hamburger and nachos—something simple, you know. But wouldn’t you know it, both dishes arrived at the same time. Not to waste good food, I packed the nachos up to take home. And let me tell you, finding decaf coffee on the menu was a blessing! It’s the small comforts that matter, isn’t it?
The pub itself was spacious, and I could just imagine the craic that must go on there once the sun goes down. But we’re not the sort to be out late, so that part of the story remains a mystery to us. Still, I’d say this place is worth a visit, for sure. And, we’ll be back someday,...
