Always a beautiful place to swing by. Living on the Oregon Coast has a lot of magick to it. Devils Punchbowl is no exception. It's too bad that Mo's is right there. Mo's is one of the worst restaurants on the coast. It's always been terrible. It certainly draws the tourists who don't know that there's WAY better restaurants serving amazing clam chowder and other seafood (i.e., Local Ocean, Georgie's, Chowder Bowl, and even The Rogue has clam chowder miles above Mo's attempt).
Anyway... it's peak tourist season, and I try to avoid the area (as well as much of the coastal towns in Lincoln County) as much as possible. I go on certain days of the week to avoid the crowds.
Tourists cause a lot of damage to the ecosystem; littering, vandalizing, and ignoring the signs posted, alerting them to stay away from certain areas and things FOR THEIR SAFETY and the safety of the wildlife. But, I guess they're keeping the Coast Guard base in Newport open. If you're a tourist and you're reading this, please respect your surroundings, the nature, the signs, and the locals. We live here year-round, and we do have a lot of clean-up days in an attempt to keep our home pristine, as well as take care of the Earth.
I certainly miss when we didn't have as many tourists as we do now. Even regular tourists are going to other areas due to the insane number of people. For now, until winter, I'll stick to the Rez for the most part... up until I have my ocean...
Read moreThe Oregon coast offers so many amazing sites and the Devil's Punchbowl does not disappoint. Like so many other things in Mother Nature, the real trick is the timing. I would personally suggest visiting the Punchbowl both at low tide and then later at high tide - just for a comparison. There are several good online sources for determining when both high and low tide will be on any given day. (In fact, it seems that they can pretty much predict, with fairly good accuracy, the tides far into the future.) The surrounding park area is well landscaped and pretty enjoyable for walking around. There are seemingly great views all the way around. It does stay a bit cool in the Spring and always seems to be a bit windy (which one might expect for being on the coast) so wear a jacket to stay warm. There are also some fun shops just outside of the parking lot, including the Cliffside Coffee & Sweets which has amazing ice cream, brownies, cookies, etc., and also the Pura Vida Surf Shop withl some really cool surf items and clothing (with some very friendly dogs who will warm...
Read moreI had the most incredible experience at Devil's Punchbowl Arch! This natural wonder left me absolutely speechless. The moment I set eyes on the stunning rock formation, I was in awe of its beauty and sheer grandeur.
The hike to reach the arch was an adventure in itself, with breathtaking views at every turn. The trail was well-maintained and easy to follow, making it accessible to hikers of various skill levels.
But it was the arch itself that stole the show. The way the sunlight filtered through the natural opening created a mesmerizing play of light and shadows, making it a photographer's dream. I couldn't resist taking countless photos.
What makes this place even more special is its peaceful and serene atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for anyone looking to connect with nature and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
I highly recommend Devil's Punchbowl Arch to anyone seeking a memorable outdoor adventure. It's a true gem in nature's crown, and I can't wait to visit again. A must-see destination for nature lovers and...
