Otter Rock Beach — Attraction in Newport

I found this beach kind of by accident! I went to see the punch bowl and while I was walking around, saw a woman making a mandala on the sand at the base of the cliff. I tried to figure out how she got down there and I found the stairs and stumbled onto this awesome beach!

It's very wide and the color of the sand is interesting. Sometimes it's purple, sometimes it's black, sometimes it's green. Lots of driftwood. When I went there weren't any rocks or sand dollars or anything, just wide swathes of pretty sand.

My dad brought me out here in 1988. I had never been into the Pacific before. The ocean was mirror flat with the sun shining so it was about as warm as I think an Oregon beach could be. Super fun beach for a day visit. Nice calm surf quite often for fun family surf sessions. Great place for learnin’ kids the way of the waves. Intense stairs to get down to the beach then back up.
