I recently found myself the unintended foster mom to a domestic duck, abandoned at an NC State Park. I didn't know it was a domestic duck at the time. I called this place and was greeted with the rudest answering machine. GEE! One of the first things said, "If you call multiple times and hang up you will be blocked" Seriously, This is what you want to say to a stranger, who, you should know, is calling you because they have an animal in need. Read moreI attended the Learn to Hold an Owl event. The American Wildlife Refuge is a 501 C3 nonprofit that is able to rescue and rehabilitate injured raptors only by our donations. The educational birds are raptors who could not be released back into the wild due to injuries that make it impossible for them to survive alone, i.e., injured wing, blind eye, etc. Donations are essential if they are to continue the rescues which cost them about $300 per bird.
