The library is beautifully made. The kids area is a delight and perfect place to bring your kids. The sun room is a wonderful addition and very refreshing. The cafe is a big plus but is more experience than Starbucks (10oz coffee cost $3). I would highly recommend getting your coffee on the way.
Unfortunately the designers made some really bad design decisions and didn't utilize the real estate available.
The teen Xbox area should have been in a separate room but is in an open space and gets really loud in the evening. It's impossible to do any serious work or study in the adjacent area.
The quiet room is a downgrade from the previous branch where it was at the very end of the library and had cubicles, here the quiet room doesn't have any cubicles and is in a very high traffic area, you can hear ppl in the bathroom chatting loudly because of the way the air-conditioning ducts are setup. Having the quiet area in place of teen xbox area enclosed and vice versa is a no brainer, I don't understand why they didn't think of that.
Most of the staff is really nice, polite and helpful. Overall it's a very good library which can become even better If they can address...
Read moreAn excellent library, the Hilliard branch is a very strong offering in the "people's university" space. It is very well designed, makes efficient use of space, and flows close to effortlessly from space to space. The resources are plentiful and this library makes good use of technology that is aligned with the main branch's tech design. I find the abundance of study rooms, private rooms, meeting rooms, alternative spaces, and other utility facilities to be particularly wonderful. In keeping with the main branch, Hilliard branch has a cafe inside. The Hilliard branch certainly sets itself apart. This excellent library wouldn't be complete without a great staff to bring it to life and they are there to help. I find this to be generally true of CML. Staffers, security, and librarians of the CML system have legendary customer service and care. The Hilliard branch is quite a jewel in this already gleaming crown that the greater Columbus metropolitan area can and should...
Read moreWhile the library is in a beautiful building, the layout of the library is strange. The adult books are on the top floor. If you need to do a search for a book, the computers that have chairs for you to sit at are on the far right side at the end, past the study rooms. The downstairs consist of a coffee shop, children's books, and ...more meeting rooms. You can't use the computers in the teen area even though they are not in use til 3 pm, because you have to have a teen card profile (even though this is not noted on the computers). When you get to the computers in the back, the first one I got to had a non-functioning keyboard. The books in the technical section were mostly not at this library, even though they have plenty of shelf space. It is a great library if you bring your own computer to lookup books, with plenty of places to sit. Just not many books for the size of...
