None of the beaches are private in Hawai`i, read our laws online. If a homeowner or property manager tries to block access, get as much information out of them as you can to document the occurrence, ignore their "order", and take them to court after the incident. That goes for both locals and tourists...the law is on your side so don't accept an ounce of harassment. Don't let them get away with something illegal by claiming the easement.
That said, remember that private parcels are lawfully theirs, so don't cross through yards, driveways, etc. Also, please be mindful of illegal parking, noise, litter, and the time of day you come here. And watch your step if you're barefoot, I have seen and disposed of syringes I found on the beach...
