Lanikai is beautiful, picturesque, and I loved it…but here are the main points for tourists. It’s not secluded at all - it’s a neighborhood beach. If you thought it was isolated, then you did not do your homework. There are no facilities. None. No shower. No bathroom. No food. If you go with an empty stomach or a full colon, then you will not be happy. The beach is not that wide, so it can feel more crowded than it actually is. The water is calm, but it gets deep pretty quickly, so be careful with little ones. If you go snorkeling, there are quite a few fish by the reefs, but the visibility is just ok. It’s nothing like Hanauma, but still pretty nice and free. I took some videos, so you can see for yourself. I thought the best spots were around the dense patch of coral between Kaiolena access path and the Mokumanu access path. Just look on the Google Maps satellite and you will see it pretty clearly. Be careful not to swim out too far though because you can easily find yourself a few hundred feet from shore if you are not careful. Parking can be a hassle. I would recommend trying to find spots on one of the side streets (e.g. Kuailima) and go earlier in the morning or mid-afternoon after lunch (some tourists leave to go get food). Avoid weekends if you can.

If you want a beach that is also pretty nice, but with facilities (albeit a bit…ew) and a large parking lot, you may just want to go to Kailua Beach Park which is a short drive to the west.
