This is a city facility that is not well managed. The tennis courts, swimming pool and baseball fields are well kept. Use is limited to weekends or a tournament here and there. The baseball field lights were out for a long period. Something like 2 years. The lights were replaced finally and games can now be played at this site. The 4 softball fields also had problems with the lighting, so now after 3 years 2 fields are able to be used at night. Still no solution in sight. These fields are used almost daily by adults and girls softball teams. Since there are hourly charges for the use of the fields it is not being maintained. Where there was once the ability to have 4 fields nightly it is down to 2 fields. Calls to the Council members are received but no action is being taken. Just words of it should be soon. There are televised games at the softball field and it shows when the scoreboards are not working well. Lights are not all working. This shows the City is not trying to make the facility available to the public. If you charge someone user fees, then the facility must be kept up to meet the costs. National tournaments that attract teams from all over the country for soccer could be matched with having softball fields of the same quality. Youth baseball is well maintained at CORP but who takes care of the softball fields. It is not the City personnel other than picking up trash and cutting the grass. This area could bring millions of dollars to the area and State. Investing in what you have is crucial. Waimanalo residents have a point saying the City is unable to maintain what they...
Read moreThe park is spotless and well-maintained. Big shoutout to the folks working hard to always keep it looking great. 5 stars to the park, ZERO STARS to the visitors. Some of the people using the park could humble down. We came in after 6pm, non peak hours as always, double-checked there weren't any special events or reservations, and started setting up on the courts. Despite this, we got nudged out not once, but twice. First, a couple of ahjumas made themselves at home right in front of our net, clearly staking it out for their grandchildren coming later. We moved to a new court, only to have the same thing happen again with a different group of old-ish men who even tossed a few snide comments our way. They literally came 5 minutes after we got there, but they made it seem that they were here first. Felt like we barely had a choice but to give up our spot-even though it's supposed to be a free-for-all. Didn’t have the energy to argue with those pricks on their high horses. The park itself is a gem-just be ready to stand your ground, none of them have an ounce of generosity or compassion. The maintenance workers were more welcoming than the...
