The place was busy for a Monday evening. Food ordered was simple, and came in a timely matter. However, no one came to refill our drink until the owner who was helping the waitresses deliver orders saw one of drink needed a refill but did not see the other cup. The manager came to take the cup, but also did not see the other cup. Left the cup on the edge and the manager just walked by - he was looking at the other tables. Tried to get his attention - didn't hear us. Finally, our waitress saw the cup, and filled it.

We ordered dessert (Big Oreo sundae). It was sitting on the counter for about five minutes while our waitress served her other customers. By the time we got it the ice cream was melting/really soft and whipped cream fell to the side. (Did have this before.) So disappointed I forgot to take pictures! It was good, but this was the worst experience I had at the establishment.

Even our bill had to be re-done due to Military discount was not applied correctly since Monday is discounted up to 4 people per table. We brought it her attention and she said she will see; not only the military personnel's meal but up to 4 people's meals/table.

Will be a while for us to return...

Havent been here since Covid shut down everything, now that Outback also closed down in Waipio it was either here or Chilis in Waikele to watch the baseball playoff game.

Limited hours nowdays so maybe thats why I dont visit as often as I used to, but decided to come here for a late lunch. Restaurant was busy for a midweek, with lots of older people here enjoying their meal talking story.

Met my friend for lunch here and asked the waitress when I got seated if they could change it to the game since it wasnt playing and they did which was a plus🤙Dont think anyone else was watching the tvs anyway😄

Ordered the salmon and NY steak combo since wanted a good hearty meal since I didnt eat all day and my friend had the Loco Moco. Food never disappoints here, always a big and hearty meal. Ordered a medium steak but it was more on the medium well side but it was fine.

Staff looked shorthanded so had to flag them down when wanting a refill on drinks, but as expected nowdays everywhere on island due to staffing shortages.

Wish they closed later since they close at 8pm but I guess now they cater more on breakfast and...

This place is my life saver. I literally depend on this restaurant. I am on a restricted diet and Big City Diner is very accommodating. I typically order the fresh catch with veggies in lieu of carbs or the salmon dinner. However, other items we have enjoyed are the chicken portobello and my husband loves thier burgers. They also have have a variety of breakfast items to choose from which all are amazing. I order from here a few times a week. There are no other restraunts on the leeward side that offer the quality, service, and accommodation of service without punishing you with price gauging because of it. They are fair and care. I alternalte on schedule between waipio and poli momi location and they are consistent. Only complaint, not necessarily the diner's fault because I have also made the fault in thawing salmon, but on occasion the salmon is fishy. That's why I like thier wasabi sauce on the side. You can control the flavor. Again, nothing perfect but they are my favorite and am grateful for them and for them being so accommodating and friendly. Give them a try and find out...

The food actually became better with age. So I ordered food to go and it actually tasted better as leftovers the next day. I hate when I have to add seasoning to a restaurant dish but it really needed it. I ordered the chicken cutlets with brown rice and the bread pudding without ice cream. The cutlets were a little bland even though it had a mushroom gravy. I also had French onion soup it was savory. I thought the extra cost for the added ice cream for the bread pudding was too much and I already had some at home. It really needed the ice cream because alone it is mediocre. It was an interesting take on bread pudding. I did like the macadamia nuts. I could not figure out the cream. Definitely different than the bread pudding we make it the south.

Stopped by on May 5, 2025 at about 4:30pm to pick up some takeout. Ordered boneless Korean kalbi and Mamasan meatloaf. The meatloaf was okay but couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened the container of kalbi which cost $28.99 to see the pathetic serving size - one very thin slice of kalbi on bed of cabbage, scoop of brown rice and tiny bit of old kimchi (see photo)… I’ve heard about “shrink-flation” but this is utter rip-off… Will never, ever go to the Waipio Big City Diner again!!!! Ridiculous!!! Be forewarned- open to check takeout boxes BEFORE leaving restaurant…!!!
