I was a member of The Crossings Church St. Charles County for 16 years. It’s where I formed lifelong friendships, where I met my husband, and where we began our family. Writing this review hasn’t been easy; it’s something I’ve prayed about for the past nine months. I still care deeply for many people at The Crossings, and it’s out of love and concern that I feel led to share my experience.
Over the years, many members have brought sincere and legitimate concerns to leadership, often with a desire to help the church grow healthier. Unfortunately, those concerns have been dismissed, and the individuals who raised them have been misunderstood or blamed. When similar concerns continue to come from many people, and leadership remains unchanged, it’s important to pause and reflect.
These concerns are not about personal preferences, and they aren’t petty complaints. These are real, heartfelt concerns about a culture that has become overly controlling and isolating to people who don’t ‘fall in line’. In practice, that control has often limited spiritual freedom and depth, stifled authenticity, and left little room for the Holy Spirit to move. Fear, guilt, and pressure are used to maintain order. Even if the intentions are good, the result has caused real harm.
Church leaders are human and imperfect; just like all of us. But with spiritual leadership comes a responsibility to lead with humility and to listen when others speak up about such concerns. That kind of humility has, sadly, been missing. It’s also important to note that the church is run by one family with nothing put in place to hold them accountable. If things change, The Crossings could be a good church.
In January of this year, over 100 people left The Crossings. That alone should be cause for serious self-examination. Yet instead of inviting conversation, the core leaders responded with criticism and deflection. The Lead Pastor publicly stated from the pulpit (3/2/25 Sermon on YouTube 45:10 mark) that people had “bailed on their ministry,” including one individual who had offered to train his replacement for a full month before stepping down. His offer was declined, and he was still accused of “bailing”. Like many others, he and his family left after much prayer and consideration, not out of rebellion, but out of conviction. I think it's also important for others to know that Robert, the Lead Pastor, has clearly stated, both in a leadership meeting and from the pulpit, that if you can't fully support the direction leadership is taking, then you should leave. That kind of message can make it difficult for people to feel safe asking questions or expressing concerns yet it's confusing when people are told to leave if they disagree; then publicly criticized from the pulpit when they do.
These 100+ individuals didn’t walk away from God. They didn’t “bail” on His ministry. They left an unhealthy environment where they no longer felt safe to grow spiritually. And tragically, some who left over the years have walked away from faith altogether because of the hurt they experienced. Their stories matter too, and they deserve to be heard with compassion and humility. Are we here to do God’s will? Or the will of church leaders?
If you’re reading this because you’re looking for a church home where you can build a deep, genuine relationship with God, I gently encourage you to keep searching. There are still many kind and well-meaning people at The Crossings, but the current leadership culture has caused real spiritual harm to hundreds of people.
Please don’t give up on your faith; or your search for a church that reflects God’s love with humility, grace, freedom, and truth. I pray you find a community where you can truly grow in your...
Read moreI've found my home at another church, and left this church years ago, but figured I'd open up about my experience. All these bad reviews are 100% accurate but, I recognize the names on a lot of these overly positive reviews from back when I was here, and most of them are 1. Members of the family that runs it 2. Leadership members working for the family or 3. Long term members who are close with the family. I will state I was here mainly for the youth group (6-7 yrs ago, I'm almost 19 now) which in itself was great, I met a lot of great people there, but overtime getting more involved with this church showed it's true colors.
Some of what I experienced; I felt comfortable enough to open up about personal things (nothing serious or concerning by any means) with ONE member of leadership during 1 on 1 bible study, had it used against me and later was interrogated by other leadership members (in their 30s with kids) who I hadn't shared this information with at the age of 13/14, my young self left sobbing on multiple occasions. I was pressured into getting more and more involved with the church, when I told others outside of the church about how their program works, many showed concern and confusion (ex: you MUST go through a series of bible study sessions before getting baptized. It's run by one family that clearly preaches based on personal beliefs and feeding their ego even if it means weaponizing the Bible or hurting others which they publicly claim is just "being honest" and sometimes the "truth" hurts).
A handful of people I met here left after me, and the behaviors the church would dismiss I would describe as criminal. I don't know names, but I've heard from this handful of people that during youth camps, on AT LEAST one occasion, a young member experienced a form of assault, and to everyone's knowledge, it was dismissed, and the family that runs the church + leadership did nothing about it.
In my heart I believe the children of the family who run this church, and some of these leadership members are great people, but like most have said, they want you to feel trapped, they want you to feel guilty for even thinking of not attending, and they want you to feel bad about what they view as your "imperfections" until you submit to THEIR beliefs and way of living.
They've lost 100+ members if not HUNDREDS in the last 5 years, and there's a reason for it. If you've read this far and you're looking for a new home, my suggestions would be Life Church in St. Peters on Mexico Rd., and Friendship MB Church in St. Louis on Etzel Ave....
